Water in air filter of 2013 PUMA?
Hi guys - I have a 2013 Puma and was recently driving when the engine light came on and I noticed I had limited power. It was raining very hard when this occurred. The engine sounded fine and idled well but I could not get revs. I crawled the car back to my local LR dealer who has just informed me I had water in my air filter? This is a surprise to me as I haven't been through any water deeper than about 12 inches?? I don't have a snorkel fitted though I do live in a pretty wet climate with quite a few very heavy down pours over the summer?? Can anyone please tell me how water may have gotten into the air filter? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the dealer seems convinced I have been taking it through deep water??

If you've not been wading, the water must have been sucked in

Open your airbox up, at the bottom there is a drain hole, make sure it's not blocked

Thanks mate - I'll do that! The dealer has since replaced the filter but didn't mention anything other than deepwater crossings?

That's exactly what I was thinking Munch90. Same thing happened to my 2010 Puma and the lid hadn't been fitted under the back clips allowing water ingress which ruined the filter. Main stealer job of course. Twisted Evil
To check take off the blank cover on the wing and shine a torch up there with a small mirror and if you can see filter material it's not fitted right.
To fit correctly you can either push the replacement filter element right down into the housing then slide the top back on or do as I do:
Fit filter into top cover and while standing alongside the left wing bring it towards you with the far end tilted up, feed it carefully underneath the aircon hose and keep gently pulling it back towards you.
The last few leaves of the filter will need to be pushed back towards you but once they're in the filter lid will drop down and you'll find it's secure under the back tabs and can then be clamped down with the front clips.
I think most of the people they use here in Oz are either young unsupervised apprentices or refugees from unspeakable places who've never worked at any thing let along on modern vehicles.
Can you call a Deafener modern?
Hope this helps.
AlanH.

AlanH - similar technique but not sure why you put the filter in the lid - it works fine on mine with the filter in the base which means it's not proud of where the lid slides across.

Thanks all for your suggestions - I picked the car up yesterday and when I finished work it was raining again (though not as heavily). I made it to the exact same spot (about 5km from my office) when, you guessed it, same engine light and no power?!? Its back at the dealer now?? I will call and suggest poor fitting filter cover as you guys have also suggested! Will let you know how it goes?? At least they now know I wasn't driving though any flooded rivers!!

Water in air cleaner element
2008 Puma, I have the same concern, after a pressure clean, did it twice to prove it, I have a snorkel and am to investigate further, seems to be sealing, but will do the check through the plastic bit on top of guard as advised by previous post. WMcA Brisbane Australia

you guys must be from sydney.

the puma air duct is not sealed.
so water can sucked into the engine

I have done my airbox mod and always use pressure washer in the engine bay and never had a problem- that is if you make the air duct water tight

Thanks for the suggestion - how do you make the airbox watertight? I have just returned from the dealer and it was water in the air filter again - surprise, surprise!? At least they no longer think i was driving it through rivers between me picking the car up and leaving work!

ha - Sydney no, northern NSW....just about to get another solid east coast low weather system (mini-cyclone for other readers!!). >200mm of rain forecast!!
