What's missing on my 90 where the seat box bolts to the rear tub?
I have a gap here out to the wheelarch which has let muddy, salty water into the sill area over the winter. Both sides are the same. Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Dab of sealant I'd imagine.
Though I think on mine there is a seat belt bracket there? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Oh no your right its definitely not ok.
But it is a defender? Take it to your dealer and make the point of saying lots of salty water is coming out of it and then make sure they clean it properly, treat any rust appropriately and then seal it properly. Interestingly, having a look at my one yours seems to have a different seat belt arrangement as mine has a plate which bolts to the B pillar and the floor and then the seat belt attaches to that. Will take a pic and upload when I'm home if it helps? This is on the new (15MY) 90, so the end of the belt loops back to the plate with the reel on it.
The soft top (1988) has (had) the bracket in the bottom corner. Martin 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Thanks for the replies
Will raise it further with the dealer, at least I know there's not just a seal plate missing or similar. Martin 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

If its any consolation my one has a plate in the bottom of it and is maybe 5-6mm deep with dust and old mud which until now I hadn't noticed.
Hope it gets sorted Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Hello Martin Answer... build quality... Mines is similar on one side, but tighter on the other. You can see also on your Drivers Side image that the bolt head 'north' of the location has a elongated hole in the panel work where I would guess that there is a generally assembly first, then a general alignment process before things are tightened up. Defenders as we know have worked on the principle of 'there or there abouts' for years, which I don't mind too much as long as function wins out. My 90 (MY2011) has an almost closed gap near side and a 7-8 mm gap drivers side. But on both sides there is evidence of a gasket / seal behind this assembly. Neither let in water. I noticed this when preparing / power washing the underside before the Dinitrol treatment. So I would say that it is worth going back to the Dealer, but you will probably get a silicon / water ingress 'quick fix'... make sure it's really clean and dry when you take it in as this will principally determine how long the fix lasts. Good Luck... Click image to enlarge Drivers Side 7-8 mm Gap with rear 'Seal' Click image to enlarge Off Side Tighter but also with rear 'Seal' SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

My 2003 has the same now. While cleaning before painting I push some chewing gum look alike away and now I have the same hole on both sides. Roel
