have just booked mine in to get it done. The guy booking it in wasn't au fait with which bolts it was but it's a 5hr job so not a quick fix as it sounds like they have to strip all 4 hub assemblies and rebuild them with the new bolts.

Does this recall apply to all MY15 defenders or only certain models. I have no been notified by my dealer yet.

Hi guys,

I had this done to my vehicle before the recall was released. The noise vibration and locking of the wheel is precisely the description I gave landrover assist so I have a feeling I may have contributed and shaken some engineers up at landrover!

If you've got a letter I personally would stop driving your vehicle immediately (see picture below of mine pre-fix!) I turned in to a corner had several enormous bangs and the front left wheel locked up...

I've got the letter at home, not sure if it had vin number x to y on it though? Didn't read past the point I realised mine had already been done.

The damage you see to the disc was caused by the sheered hub bolts (I think I only had two left) being tumbled round against the hub. I ended up with work done on all four corners two new front discs and calipers and a completely new hub to replace the one in the picture! Excuse the red ring, that was me arguing with the dealership to replace the caliper as there was a clear witness mark from the disc hitting it.

Cheers, Joe

I would also point out they had my vehicle for about four weeks, but they did have to wait for landrover engineers to come and inspect it because I wouldn't let them send it back to the plant. I shouldn't think it would take more than a couple of days now they know the issue and the fix.

this is appalling!, the fact that they can get so many things wrong with an existing design that has been around for so long with 110 front axles failing, front diffs failing and now hubs breaking up, and all these issues are potentially life threatening, LR should be ashamed of themselves. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Did it give any warning before failing? I have just booked mine in today for mid May as I have a occasional grinding and squealing from the front breaks / hubs but was told there were no recalls on my motor

I didn't get any warning at all. All seemed fine until the moment it failed.

Unfortunately even though the design has stayed the same for years suppliers change all the time and with them come new issues

Its more than likely its a bad batch of cheepo bolts from somewhere like Eastern Europe or China (no offence to any members there)

We have a nightmare at work with materials not being up to spec or thickness and the answer lies with the suppliers who just are not putting out the products they used to Sad Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

No replies so I will answer this one myself:

According to the AA

SALLDWBR8FA461900 to SALLDHMP7FA464300

October to December 2014

1173 vehicle affected

Fault: The fixing bolts for the front and rear hub assemblies are not to specification. The bolts could break and cause loud noise followed by severe vibration wheel lock possibly a bolt could puncture the brake disc or even if all the bolts are damaged the hub may become insecure to the axle. The aforementioned will cause instability and significantly increase the risk of collision.

Action: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace all the front and rear wheel hub fixings. If any damage has been caused by bolts failing the affected components will be replaced.
