PEL500110 (grey soft spring 82°C version) ordered from my Land Rover dealer yesterday. They told me that on their screen it shows up as an original part for the FL II which seems to match the discussion here.
It will be installed next week friday when the truck goes in for its semi-annual oil/filter.

Munch 90 is the black one you recommend PEL500110 or PEM101020 Rover forums and internet sellers have confused me. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

PEL500110 is gray one

PEM101020 is black one

but if you get them to check stock then go and get them to check colour to make sure , as there have been some mix ups with numbers

Done, PEL50110 installed today Thumbs Up
And good thing is that dealer also entirely purged the coolant system and refilled with new anti-coolant mix. So all corrosion inhibitors and other additives are up to snuff again, well before the 10 year prescribed for this job by JLR.

Eric, I am very interested to see what the new thermostat does to the running temeperature.

I was surprised to see that on one of the uncharacteristic warm April days last week(still only 22°), on a faster run, the water temperature crept up to 94° on the Ultragauge.

Add to this another ten to fifteen degrees outside temp and a heavy trailer.... 1998 Tdi 90 SW,
2008 Td4 90 SW,
2012 2.2 90 SW,
2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma
Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s,
Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons

Wild Card, do you have the standard thermostat? If so, what you say is pretty normal I think, as the standard thermostat only seems fully open at 96°C.
Now, I may never find out what this PEL500110 gives as a change in running temps. I have no ultragauge, not really interested in it. So only thing I can go by is my standard water temp which does not move above the middle unless you have a boil....
What I would like to add is a simple VDO water temp gauge, one which shows the real water temp, but it seems not so easy to find a spot to install the sensor for that. It has been discussed in an older thread, but without resolution....

50°C and a heavy trailer? Shocked Not really surprised, are you? That is like trying to cool the radiator by blowing hot air from a hairdryer into it. Laughing You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
