Afternoon Pickles, I guess a real wax job would not hurt, but sofar just did not see the real need for it yet. Like yours, mine is protected from the elements all year long.

G'Day, Yes,it is "afternoon" here!!
Just give the bonnet a go, do half the bonnet, & see if you can detect a difference. I don't go for any "fancy" ridiculously expensive stuff, just an ordinary polish, & away I go. I'll normally do just a panel or two at a time, to make sure I do a good job, & get around all the "nooks & crannies", inside & around hinges, badges etc. Your car's a keeper I know, so I'd be definitely give it a go. Regards, Pickles. |

Pickles, good idea to do it panel by panel, as opposed to do the entire truck in one go. Probably will give it a try some time this summer, and I probably will start with the bottom side sills where after all this time there are a few marks from getting in the truck. Will use a basic good liquid polish, not going to clay bar it or so.
In any case will wait another 1 or 2 months as first the truck will go back to the north of Switzerland for a full Dinitrol repeat treatment (after it was completely done almost 3 years ago now), and we know those gents there are making the stuff ooze out of all panel gaps up to the top. So will have to regularly clean all that off for some weeks afterward, so polish better come only after that. Eric You never actually own a Defender. I've never done that claybar stuff, I'm not that keen.
I just like our car to look good not perfect/concourse etc, & just have a good coating of polish on it. Eric, Don't do the bottom first, start from the top, & work down, & do the wheels last! I don't use a machine buff either, just the old hand polish! Getting the polish residue out of the badges/hinges/corners etc is a bit of a pain, but the end result is worth it. Regards, Pickles. |

More general cleaning done today, body this time and glass etc etc. slight T cut on the odd Mark here or there. A few touch ups tomorrow to do and clay bar everything. Then finally after that a full wash and wax.
Then move on to the inside another day. |

Cheers. I was'nt sure after I did it. In my mind it looked OK, I guess tomorrow when I walk back to it in the works car park I will make up my mind. The other thought is ditch the spot lights and replace with either 1 LED bar or a pair of 72w LED bars and put one under each headlight in the winch bumper.
I was going to put the number plate at the top of the grill but thought it might block airflow to the intercooler as it will be flat against the grill rather than stood off on the A Bar. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Excossack, LED's would "de-clutter" the front as you could achieve the same output with much smaller units. Offset the number plate to one side or the other on the bumper? Or don't someone like Mantec make a number plate mount for the plate on the fairlead? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

LEDs would certainly declutter the front & moving the number plate to one side of the bumper would do the trick. At the mo, the number plate is too long to go at the ends, so would need a shorter one making up. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Continued cleaning work, clay bar detailing today. Just roof left thought I'd leave that to tomorrow...
Wash and wax after that and finally that's the exterior done after three days. Then onto the interior at some point. |

It's completly safe. I do it about every two years, doesn't need to be that often but it's plenty of work!
