Kind on / off topic.

My father in-law has a vw touran and when slowing down it feels like it's going to stall but then once stopped it's fine I wonder it that's kind of related but the opposite to what you've mentioned / who it should do....a faulty sensor of some sort?

seems like we got it sorted.....

3 people including myself think it could be the clutch plate working ..... intermittently.

so in theory it's got to be the clutch?

was on my short (8 mile) commute to the office this morning which was going very well / very smooth / no excessive clatter (although I had the most obvious case ever of pulling off the drive and the engine just seemed to run away with itself and then die down - a bit like a rubber band being unwound)?

any way all got to some traffic lights at the c5 mile point and while completely stationary (so hand brake not rotating) and there's this mechanical clank which I heard from outside and the engine almost stalled rocking the truck?

what the hell can it be - I'm thinking it's GOT to be the clutch?

oh and it wasn't a clank from the engine almost stalling it was the other way round, mechanical problem almost causing the engine to stall?

could have been bit of dodgy fuel/water gone though causing misfire for split second , then as engine juddered caused rattle

unless something seizing up , cant see how it could try and stall the engine, about only thing would be gearbox ( if foot off the clutch) , clutch brg but that would be very noisy all the time in use

possibly but that's why I went back and edited by post because I'm sure it was a mechanical problem prior to the engine jutter and not the other way round.

if the fly wheel was like a bike wheel it felt like someone sticking a twig in the spokes (if that makes sense)?

the engine seems to be running sweet as a nut (especially with the 2so in it) so I'm sure it's nothing to do with the engine and as the car was completely stationary I'm thinking it's got to be the clutch ?

driving home yesterday was a nightmare driving along in the rush hour traffic - each time I depressed the clutch it was a right clatter yet I went out last night and smooth as could be Confused

Well new flange fitted this morning...old drum put back and first impressions are the hand brake feels different / right.

Bizarre thing this morning.......came down the m1 (b'ham to Milton Keynes) with several miles of 50 max speed so made sure I was doing a little less....mechanically what a lovely journey (and great mpg).... leaving to come back (in the dry) I went round an island slowly in 2nd gear and it felt like I was on ice....like major under steer......why?

Anyway will be interesting to see what difference (if any the new) flange makes.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

New tyres?
Wet road surface after being dry for sometime?

New tyres need scrubbing in before you get their full potential grip

Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow....

Hello mate Thumbs Up

I'm sure you're right (at least hope you are) however it was dry and I was going slowly and had already done 100+ miles at this point?

Used an impact drill / drive while fitting new flange earlier what a doddle Smile

Well see how it goes from here. Thumbs Up

Could have been Diesel on the road, sometimes if someone has overfilled their tank or there is a leak in the filler pipe when they go round a roundabout 'the slosh effect' can leak diesel, you only need a little on the road especially if the road surface is worn to loose grip. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

making some good progress.....

hand brake appears to be completely sorted (new flange fitted)

heavy clatter (and hopefully scrubbing off tyres) sorted thanks to new steering rods / rod ends that work properly

light clatter sound and intermittent poor gear change and kangarooing at low speed I'm putting down to a carp clutch (springs rattling and sticking) so just awaiting a date for operation by local private hospital to sort and I confident I'll one hell of a lovely 110 that mechanically SWEET although there will be just a few more performance mods to be undertaken in the department of air flow, but only minor.

then I need to get on to fitting the sub woofer permanently, possible speaker upgrades, roof rack, finish fitting the dynomat, a wee bit of leather here and there and then look forward to cruising Europe and more putting another 50k+ miles on the clock and then another 50k miles on the clock and so on.........

happy motoring all Thumbs Up

just disconnected the hi/lo range switch and after re-fitting the battery earth lead the other day I believe I just MIGHT have fixed it once and for all Mr. Green

I am a very happy bunny just now........gear changes are so easy. and as I've thought many times the def does actually feel like it have a modern engine under bonnet Thumbs Up

wow......I've been tasting what it really should be like for the last 4 1/2 years but never been able to experience it for any length of time.......happy days !!
