Looks like it just started as a defender then which has been photoshopped as a thought exercise? Cheers, David

strange it hasn't been on the road since 01/10/2012 though... I know they break but couldn't have been that quick.

I've really got NO idea, but these images don't look too "out of the way", do they?

These are definitely photoshopped. The two vehicles do not have the same surfacing at the base of the A post. I personally think the grey one captures the essense of where the Defender should, and could be heading. However, I agree that the spare wheel carrier is too much cladding and resembles a window box. The basic window graphics and major features are carried over from the classic, but the surfaces look modern and appropriate to modern manufacturing. No shame in that, and if we get modern door seals and mechanisms, bonded windows and such, we will be all the happier.
The 3/4 front view of the 110 somehow looks less convincing. Reminds me of the retro styled and somewhat fake looking Landcruiser.
I have every faith that the team at LR have done a lot of careful research and taken the design further since showing the DC100. They won´t instantly win us all over when the day comes, but they have done a great job on the rest of the "range" so far, so we will have to give them a chance to convince us.
Many of the real Defender utility customers have since bought Amaroks, F150´s and such, and will require winning back.
This will have to be done with state of the art technology, and a thoroughly modern technical package..... 1998 Tdi 90 SW,
2008 Td4 90 SW,
2012 2.2 90 SW,
2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma
Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s,
Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons

I'm afraid for me both of those look pretty grim. Far too Japanese.

Btw the vehicle has not been taxed because it has been tagged as exported. 2011 110 USW

Jeep - the next-generation model is due in 2017

It's interesting to look at the issues facing Jeep with the Wrangler replacement and see were JLR could be with the Defender. There are some amazing similarities but also some large differences. All down to the choices previous management have made.

If you see the two models converging more in the near future - "the new Wrangler is rumored to have an aluminum body for significant weight savings, a smaller engine (most likely a turbo-charged inline-four), an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a possible fully-independent suspension." Heard that anywhere before?

Maybe JLR are after a slice of the Wrangler market - the article quotes "Jeep has no trouble moving the trucks, with 235,904 built in 2014 alone".

Jeep produced over 240,000 wranglers last year??!!

That's more than Land Rover sold evoques!

Ten times what Land Rover sells defenders.

Surely wrong? Cheers, David

In ZA too - bucketloads of them around. And not just for show - we see them on the 4x4 trails every time we go out with the LR club. --

Must admit that figure on Jeep production really surprised me as well - I haven't tried to source independent validation...maybe I should; but if it's correct then you can see why JLR managers and engineers would be looking at it closely to see what features and functions a Defender replacement needs to break into that element of the market.

Given JLR are looking for 50,000 vehicles per annum then it seems a very realistic target; indeed the new defender could show the Evoque a clean pair of heels when it comes to production success.

Edit:

Looking at sales figures alone for 2014:

US 175,328
Canada 23,057

A friend of mine is convinced a Defender replacement was shown in last weeks Farmers Weekly, anyone seen that article? I'm going to ask him to bring it round tomorrow as by coincidence I'm going to Lode Lane tomorrow with him for the Defender Celebration tour.
Ironically in a borrowed Freelander as my Defender is at the stealers having warranty repairs! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Sad
