If buying for a Defender, Does it really need one? I thought the Defender came under the duel purpose vehicle regs and was therefore exempt 110 D250 SE HT

Don`t buy a ACTICA one we`ve had issues with finding back up from them, when they go wrong.
Look into a siemens vdo make usually pretty good, and there are more dealers with the kit to set them up and repair them. Welcome to the world of drivers hours and strange symbols Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

Give Sherwood truck and van a ring at Sheffield, Malc does a lot of retrofits to various vehicles, the best make in my opinion is the continental 1381 tachograph quite a reliable unit, I fit tacho's myself and they are a better unit

If you're referring to Driver CPC then it's not required as this is based on the Class of Vehicle & a Defender is Class N1 |

It's expensive as it is a new install the pulse adaptor is dear aswell as the secondary speed signal device which is now require on all new vehicles / installs
There's nothing stopping you fitting it yourself and just taking it to be calibrated, there not that difficult to do. Regards Will 2005 90 XS 1954 86'' Series 1 tilt 1968 88” 2A 200tdi 2002 110 Hardtop |

I`ve fitted a few my self, basic common sense and mechanical / electrical knowledge. Is all that`s needed.
The biggest issue I`ve had is where to mount the tacho unit it`s self, especially in a defender as there is`ent much room. It`s the same size as a single din car radio. Also check on the parasitic drain of the unit while the vehicle is idle. I`ve had a few school mini buses, which stand around all week with the tacho slowly draining the battery. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |
