Crystals with decent bulbs and maybe the relay mod, best output for money. Xenon retrofits are illegal end of 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Now HID Xenon as a kit form are illegal as no type approval.
HID xenon headlights which are E marked are only road legal if vehicle is fitted with self levelling and wash wipe facility. Therefore are illegal to be fitted to a Defender unless you go to the expense of fitting self levelling etc. Now these Xenon bulbs, are they true HID Xenon or are they just Xenon filled bulbs? Does an E marked Xenon bulb fitted into a headlight unit type approved for Xenon bulb need self levelling or wash wipe facility? Brendan |

Official VOSA advice
https://mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk/vosas...questions/ Do HID headlamps require washers / self levellers? Headlamp washing and levelling systems are a legal requirement for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps with a luminous intensity exceeding 2,000 lumens. But unless the luminous intensity is marked on the lamp, a tester won’t be able to tell if these systems are needed. So, they can only be rejected if they are fitted and are inoperative or obviously defective. If they are missing and you believe they should be fitted, then pass and advise. |

Has anyone tried this upgrade relay kit? Price seems reasonable.

^^ Correct, they are H4 bulbs only. Part number is VPLDV0061. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
