GOOD !
I just need to sit back and enjoy it running really really well for as long as it lasts. not only does it seem smoother at the moment but the responsiveness is great, easily able to adjust engine speed to match transmission speed etc when changing down. I'm sure I even noticed a slight kick as the turbo started to do its stuff. either I've just learn't how to drive again or something is working as it should? but happy. |

Munch90 -. Sorry just couldn't resist having a look at the wiring....its too early to say for sure but following the new caliper i'd say the def has run faultlessly.
Photo below to my mind suggests the abs does talk to the ecm. Under what conditions signals are sent and how they are acted on I have no idea but would be interested to know Click image to enlarge Last edited by Caterham on 11th Jan 2015 8:38pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I'm grasping at straws here and I fully accept that....to a point
I've felt that there was an issue with the brakes and clutch before relating to the impact they can have on the engine ie the loss of power (guessing similar to that experienced my those who have a blown fuse on the brakes).... The caliper started leaking a lot recently but I'm not convinced there wasn't some kind of problem with it for a long time before that..... is it possible there was some air in the piston which would expand due to heat - this then getting picked up by the abs? I really don't know but since the new caliper has been fitted things are good and it just seems to much of a coincidence? On top of that the following ; Seemed like I had a problem with front diff for a long time (ok this is mechanical not ecm / abs) Brakes stuck on three times (seemed electrical / electronic not mechanical) Intermittent poor engine running with similar characteristics of blown fuse on brake lights? Will be doing c500 miles this week so should be able to confirm if all is good so following replacement caliper???????????? |

If we get one in next week running dodgy , i dont think i will suggest fitting a caliper in front of the other blokes there
what was done to brakes when they stuck on then ? Did they come on while moving ? after you braked? |

Caterham, I have to ask as a newbie on the forum and not fully familiar with your Defender.
Have you had it long? Has it always been as problematic as it comes across? Did you buy it with a warranty? Is it worth cutting your losses and swapping it for another Defender? 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic 2010 90 SMC Over Land Nero Edition - Santorini Black Metallic (Now Departed) |

I wouldn't suggest a new caliper either.......but I wouldn't now rule out the brakes altogether either. Had the def from new (over 4yrs now /50+k miles) and yes it's been a pain in the rear end ever since with various problem but there's been an intermittent problem since day which so many times I thought i'd fixed only for it to return (this could prove to be the same? ). Munch90 - 3 times the brakes have stuck on...first time from a fresh start....small movement of brake pedal and abs would be kicking in on non tarmac surface (lifted brake pedal up and click all ok), second time and stuck in traffic and brakes seemed to progressively bind on (again messed / lifted brake pedal and click all ok), third time reversing on drive (can't remember what happened to solve) .?? |

If you had to lift the brake pedal up and it was fine then I'd suggest it was a pedal problem rather than brake problem.

Please change the thread title:
Something like: "Caterham's ongoing saga of percepted faults that anyone that has been constantly bombarded with them have either found themselves bored out of their tree, clinging to the abyss or have lost the will to live long ago." Catherine is a relative newcomer and picked up on it straight away. How many others have suggested you move on to another marque historically? Windscreen rubber.......change that and all your braking issues will be sorted. +1 Happy New Year Wayne.....Obviously not a new leaf! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
