I wonder if bits falling off is due to their using white spirit to clean panels first. They were featured in LRO about a year ago and thats what they used on the guinea pig vehicle. I remember thinking that they should have used meths or a degreasant because white spirit leaves a slightly oily film behind. |

Pan, Have I understood your post correctly? Your putting dynamat on the roof and the cell EVA foam between the dynamat on the roof and the headliner? Cheers Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

Hi Guys,
I know this is an old thread but I'm getting going on to soundproofing my 110 and found this: http://www.screwfix.com/p/sika-multiseal-b...tAodrBgApg they also do a 150mm wide roll for not much more. A lot cheaper than e-bay, which seems to average out at £4 + per metre. Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

I have previously used the bituminous version of this in a CSW. I used the wider roll and stuck sound deadening black cloth trim over it on body sides and carpet over it on the rear wheel boxes. Very effective and I miss it in my new XS - especially when it rains. Cheers, Guy.

I can't understand the skimping on soundproofing on what are basically £30k motors. It's only £300 ish for the full car and if you come to sell it you don't have to tell the new owner it's got roof flashing stuck to the inside which will probably lose you more than you saved on not putting a quality product on in the first place. If you don't want to have the big outlay in one go just do a section of the interior at a time floor/roof/back etc at least then it looks professional.

Try this product used around 10 metres for a 110 station wagon and I'm really impressed for the price..sticks like the proverbial to a blanket too.

After I recently took my new Defender for its first long drive I was left under no illusion from my wife that I needed to quieter it down - especially the noise from the gravel stones flicking up.
I ended up taking bits of advice from this and the AULRO forum and in the end on the exterior I put Rhinoliner in the rear wheel arches (made a big difference and in hind sight should have done under the cargo area as well), did a full corrosion protection effort (which seemed to make quite a bit of difference to my surprise) interior I was planning on using Dynamat but ran out time before our next trip and I ended up cutting up a $15 double bed camping mat and some yoga matting (for the more difficult to get to areas under the third row seats) to use in the rear cargo area and front and rear foot wells. I put the LR floor mats back over the top of it all. Anyway, it made enough difference that the wide said don't worry about the Dynamat. I still plan this weekend to put some marine carpet in the rear cargo area which should make it a bit quieter again. |
