I have found out last night from one of the design team at JLR that the Chassis for the new defender will be one that is used for the current models like the Evoque/Discovery and they currently working on the suspension options.
If i can get more info out of him i will try but its all hush hush |

The interest on £500 over 3 years at the current rates is not worth having. Far better to see the look on the dealers face when I go and get my deposit back having decided that my currents LR is my last one. |

That vehicle looks impossibly terrible, no way is it going to look like that.
As usual, nothing new, just sensationalism. Pickles. |

"Land Rover's Defender replacement will be the 'most capable' yet, and will get four-cylinder engines as well as a V6 option" "However, a sneak preview in the form of a concept car is currently being discussed. Potential debuts for a concept are next March at the Geneva show, at the New York show in the spring or at the Frankfurt show next September." "JLR is determined that the new Defender will be able to thrive in the world’s harshest conditions, to the extent that it will be able to ‘plug into’ existing component networks by using the same wheel and tyres sizes as Toyota’s Land Cruiser and Hilux. Autocar has been unable to substantiate rumours that the new Defender also uses the same bolt circle diameter to make wheel replacement easier in places such as central Africa." Now thats a bit more like it! I know it's just an impression but I like that, it shows how a small change in colour, wheels etc can change the feel of a car compared to the Orange one we saw yesterday! And talking about 'surviving in harshest environments, sharing common wheel sizes etc is all sounding a bit more reassuring! V6 auto option too! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Only other thing is if there going after land cruiser parts for easy replacement etc,
I think we can expect a land cruiser price tag to go with it. Looks to me like a replacement for the Discovery 4 as well giving a £40k starting price and £50k for something with a decent spec. just my thoughts. |

should give the Skoda Yeti a run for its money. Expect Discovery to morph into big Discovery Sport look alike and new Defender to take over the chunky Discovery 4 look, as you say at a price premium

If expect price to probably be £30k-40k which is, I suppose, not incomparable to a land cruiser (prado?) or a top end hilux, patrol, amarok etc which already sell in obscene numbers around the world (not the UK though?)
I guess it will come down to capability and reliability (more likely perceived reliability) I personally think it's time the defender went a *bit* upmarket as pets face it, budget cars aren't what is Brits do best. We're better at making a quality car rather than trying to out-cheap the Koreans/Japanese Remember, too, that the LC 200 series and the Amazon before it, which both have a good reputation and are used quite a bit around the world cost around £65k in today's money in the UK! I guess a big question is will it have live axles too? Somehow that would be a big spiritual change if it didn't... Cheers, David

It's the current price of the defender that makes it fun to own.
as soon as you look at 50K plus there are cars I would go for instead. 30K for a new Defender with it still being worth 20K after 3yrs is why I bought new If the price is high i will just keep what I've got and am very happy with. |
