Looking nice. Cool

I like that utility body it used to have too... I'd have left it with that!

Thanks Jim Thumbs Up

Utility body could still be an option, although hi cap and canopy is a more practical option for me, but Utility body gives it a more rugged and purposeful look Whistle

Made some progress today had an auto spark with me all day, the prospect of marrying up a 1993 V8 with an 2003 Td5 was well beyond my level of expertise.

By the end of the day he managed to have engine turning over, including a good strong spark, so over the moon another step closer to finally firing up the V8 for the first time. Thumbs Up

Fuel pump and fuel pipes are next on the list

The background story of my 130 was that it was originally owned by NIE our local utility company, it was recovered out of Scotland years ago to a local dealers where it was never fixed and sat for years not turning a wheel. Td5 engine was split for spares, the rest of it then used for spares for other NIE Defenders. Then a mate of mine bought it as a project where it sat for another 2 or 3 years. Basically this 130 has been off the road longer than its been on it, when we got clocks and instruments connected up it shows only 77k miles.

Bearing this in mind when auto spark had finished with engine wiring etc we decided to see if we could get a few other bits working. I must say it bought a smile to my face Big Cry when we managed to get indicators, one headlight and the horn working, there is a glimmer of hope for this 130 Thumbs Up

Defenders just get to you dont they Very Happy

Sadly the V8 still isn't up and running, think i have some fuel pressure issues, good news is wiring is sorted so at least i can play about with the mechanicals.

Due to trying to turn V8 over on numerous occasions thought i better turn my attention to auto box as it doesn't have cooler pipes on it (fires out whats left of fluid every time i try to turn over the engine) so don't want to do any unnecessary harm to box trying to get V8 going. So i am going to service box and while i am there i also need to change the kick down cable.

Done some research on this not as straight forward as i thought Neutral will try to post some picture when i get it done.

Hardly exciting, but its always good to get some tasty new bits to bolt on even though it will hardly be seen, its still an essential bit of kit.

Will hopefully get this fitted along with cooler pipes, kick down cable and gearbox serviced at some stage over the next weeks whenever i am not lying on the ground in the rain freezing my you know whats off Shocked

Must get a bigger garage that will fit my 130 Whistle

Decided to go for it today, kick down cable and gearbox service, cable concerned me slightly when i read up on it, but to be honest in reality it wasn't to bad

Removed sump and filter

Then unbolt the valve block

Gave this all a good clean down as you can see it was a bit sludgy in places, gearbox is 1993 so likely the first time its been opened up and serviced, fluid was a dark brown so slightly burnt looking

This is as close as i want to look into a gearbox, again wiped it all down

Old cut kick down cable

New cable in place if anyone is every using this for reference you need to pre load the cam one revolution before fitting cable

Bolted valve block back on and fitted new filter and O rings ready for sump to go back on

All in a days work but an essential part of the rebuild, just wish i had done it when i had engine and box split would have been easier and warmer than lying on driveway getting covered in gearbox fluid

Thanks for reading hope to have V8 fired up soon Thumbs Up

Standard at the minute until i get it up and running MOTd etc. might make a few modifications further down the line as it can expensive kit, but worthwhile.

Just want to get V8 running again after top end rebuild Thumbs Up

Having issue with injectors and wiring at the moment so may end up trying to source a second hand edelbrock or Holly carb kit instead.

Dont waste money/effort on a manifold and carb. Your taking a huge step backwards there. Trust me.

Also. Going MS will be far easier at your stage of build when access to wiring etc is easy.

A carb will kill the performance, make economy worse, and worst of all be almost undriveable off road ie water, angles etc.

Even with the so-called "offroad" kit, the carbs just dont work at angles..

Not intending to plug another forum, but there is lots of very knowledgable V8 guys over on LR4x4.. Smile

Cheers for the sound advice need4speed Thumbs Up

Think its safe to say forget carb route, will have to stick with standard kit for the time being, will look to hopefully upgrade at a later date.

Will update once i have something to update, roll on better weather and getting V8 fired up Very Happy

Good call Rosso. Better to delay the build by couple of months in order to make sure its done right the 1st time. Saves a whole heap of work/money further down the line.
In the meantime, there is a whole section dedicated to megasquirting V8's over on LR4x4. Go and make yourself known if you havent already Cool
