Yeah right! tell him to define "normal". I did ask for ride in a new one and after that I got all my new parts to match the "normallity"- Puma 110" SW

Mine was twice identified as normal unit i recorded it and sent it to the Service Manager who drove it and said its functions worse than the sound.

Trust me the clutch in them (or this one after 3 trips) engages where the other did, is far from heavy, does not give a noise and is a dream... Mike

Got it back this afternoon compleat with rattle, am going to get drunk over the weekend as I an reeeeeeely Censored off. I have been told to moniter the noise, which I will do. I don't know if the clutch will crap itself with the centre springs so loose, but I hope it happens about 1000km's from the dealers so Land Rover have to tow it and supply me with transport, or write it off. The worst bed partner Land Rover ever had is that lump of Ford crap that powers it now........Junk. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Yes you did.

The whole engine - far better than the TD5 anyway...but i would concede not as good as the TDV8 or my favourite the 5l Supercharged V8 Mike

It's fixed Thumbs Up

Still waiting to get the full details but apparently it is an adjustment to one of the rods on the slave or master cylinder that does not appear to be documented anywhere.

When I know the full details this evening I will post them for interested parties.

OK the details.

The clue to the fix was in my other post on this ' can we succeed where LR have failed'.

To quote myself

'On the Td5 there was a box under the coolant bottle, lid held on by six screws with a switch attached. If the cover of this was removed it revealed a bar with some half lock nuts. This was used to adjust the clutch pedal position and the grab point. Does this exist on the puma '

A similar set up does exist on the Puma and it part of its function is to adjust the rods connected to the pistons on, I guess, the master cylinder.

This is set up at the factory and is supposed to be set for life hence the reason it does not appear in the workshop manual.

Once the LR engineer had adjusted it everything worked correctly - I knew I should have told the garage about my suspicions last week but not seeing anything in the manual about it I did not bother.

Clutch operation and gear change is now excellent, far better than the second clutch, and there is no crunching of gears from first to second and second to third Thumbs Up

Yeovil LR have entered all the details of the work done on the LR warranty database so any dealer can access it.

If you have this problem and the dealer can't find the info PM me and I will send you my registration number which will take the dealer directly to my vehicle's details.

No disrespect intended - but maybe if some of you fellas ever get the chance to drive a Puma across a few arid bulldust filled deserts, across savannahs and tracks with foot high corrugations - only to find the vehicle self disintegrating - then use it in some extreme 4 wheel driving situations, and have not only a clutch, but a gearbox, transfer case, axles.... the list goes on - fail - be replaced, albeit under warranty - you'll realise that folks like Allan and LROV90 are right.

This Defender is not as good as previous models. Because good means more than a "refined driving experience". It means a vehicle that when pushed hard, will display some reliability. I have used this truck in such an environment, and can offer you this: A Puma might suffice where the occasional hedgehog is all you'll come across, on some scenic hedge and stone walled greenlane. But in our world - they fail miserably. I have a 1956 Series 1 - it's a vehicle I trust more than my 07 Puma!
