Painted the house. Waffle boards mounted on the roof make a good platform to locate the steps.

I went to Abersoch on Thursday and almost got repetitive strain injury from all the "waves". Bank holidays seem to attract defender owners like paper clips to a magnet..

There were 8 of us parked all within 100 metres in the town centre, came back after a meal to find another had cuddled up to next mine. It might be explained by the way it rained so hard there was a flooded stretch of road on the way back through Llanbedrog, the road outside the londis was under by about ~30cm - This got the sand off her Twisted Evil

Agreed! Tonnes of us here! Sadly no flooding at the moment though :/ sometimes drive the little river between the slipway next to the chandlery and land and sea, that's quite fun.

Spent all of yesterday rinsing out the chassis etc, my underseal is working well.. Will have to apply some more to some missed areas though soon. Cheers, David

I was on BRS yesterday, went out for 3 hours on the ski, came back and the beach was full of Defenders (and an American heap). Anybody on here?

Did my first half of my trailer training today.

Was an interesting experience, had a long old drive around Gillingham from the training base (under the Sheppy bridge) with a very nice trainer.

Old girl did have to work for her dinner though. Towing a twin axle box trailer probably 9"taller and wider than herself laden with a ton of sand, getting up to speed was a bit of a struggle!

The worst bit though was the hill start, was probably getting on for a 30-40' slope so she would have struggled on her own let alone with a girt big box trailer hanging off her back. Rolled back twice with the Instructor saying why won't the bonnet raise if you keep the handbrake on? So after explain how the handbrake works he agreed to let me start off in low range and then change when I was up to a good enough speed. Which I did and she chugged away much happier and then once we got to 10mph changed back to hi box with a satisfying "crunk" and off we went.

On the plus side driving home she felt like a formula 1 car and the workout has blown all the cobwebs and gunk out so has done a world of good!

The saga continues...

Having one of those months....
Well, where do I start.

Yesterday drove over to do my training, did all the morning manoeuvres and was improving quickly getting more and more and more confident. had a quick stop for lunch all went well then set out for the afternoon driving session.

Given the weather the day before I was looking forward to a lovely day.

Anyway, starting at the bottom of Chatham/Rotchester started the long pull up the hill towards the bluebell hill roundabout to go down onto the A2. This is all quite a steep and hilly area and all of this was up hill, dragging this loaded twin axle trailer. Getting near the top I noticed I was having to give it quite a lot of diesel to get any sort of response which I thought was unusual but due to the hill and all the mornings driving I was expecting her to get a bit hot and bothered.

Got to the top of the hill, brilliant, stopped at the lights all is well. Lights change and off we go down onto the sliproad for the M2. Change to second gear and clutch slips and engine revs. Humm not good. Try 3rd as we are rolling down hill now, clutch slips and engine just revs. Censored , down to 2nd, nothing, down to 1st, not even engine braking nothing. Censored . Hazards on pull into hard shoulder on the slip road.

The trainer with me spoke with his head office and I spoke to my recovery company (after 15 mins waiting to be connected to a person) who informed me that it would be a 60-90 minute wait. Great. The trainer was picked up in 10 mins with the trailer and I was left on the slip road down to the M2 alone.

A hour and a half later I got a phone call from a very Censored off truck driver who had been sent to the wrong junction and was checking I was at the correct one (coz you know, its my fault). He turned up and asked "does it drive?" where it dawned on me that I hadn't actually tried moving on my own without a trailer. I got in, started and low range first couldn't drag herself up the ramp so no. No drive. More grumbles, begrudgingly put me on the back and off we go home.

This is where the saviour of the story enters stage left. Or right, or whatever, I'm not good with stage work. Anyway, dropped me back at Harwoods Tonbridge where I was met by the workshop chap who unloaded her from the truck, moved some Discos and a Freelander out the way and parked her up in the corner and confirmed yeah there is nothing left of that clutch. I explained the situation and he sent me indoors.

Went into the building usual very friendly welcome, explained my situation to my service advisor as it is my only vehicle and the test was tomorrow what was I to do? I explained that the company I was using has a Td5 I could use but I still had no way of getting there. Phone calls, phone calls, phone calls and he comes over and confirms I have a Courtesy Freelander 2 overnight and for the day.

Fast forward to today, went out in the Freelander, picked up the td5 and the trailer started the test.

All was going so well until a light changed very unexpectedly and long story short, I failed as I had to do an emergency stop, annoying because it was a clean sheet otherwise.

Drove back to the freelander, dropped it off walked home. No pass, broken landy. Not a good week.

On the way back from Tuscany, we decided a trip to Beaune was required to collect some wine... found a cracking little site, so had an evening of fine dining and wine.

This morning, drove from Beaune to the chunnel, again the cruise control was ace, set to 60mph, saved fuel and made up the time with the toll zapper. Back at casa BP now, pro-valet tomorrow

ha, I am wimp, I prefer campsites with solid roofs, on suite bathrooms, and a real bed

There is a really nice little hotel in central Beaune we use with secure parking - Au Grand Saint Jean. Cheap, clean and friendly. We have stayed there many times en-route to/from S France. BM52

you failed for having to perform an emergency stop?? would you have passed if you went through the light illegally??

bad luck with clutch too! i know how the old tdis feel pulling big trailers! i was regularly driving a 300tdi 110 with 2.5 tonne on trailer and it really struggled on hills Laughing
mind that was with 10 adult passengers too! Shocked My 109 thread
