I've just had one of those weekends where nothing is really achieved!
Yesterday I went to collect a new chassis from Richards' near Doncaster. Jumped in the Merc Sprinter flatbed at half 6 in the morning, and lo and behold...ENGINE WARNING LIGHT Why do none of the drivers say anything?! Its probably been like that for months and nobody has had the decency to tell me! Then I'm on the motorway, get up to 70 and there's a huge rattle from somewhere that's incredibly loud. Yet again. nobody's said anything!! It gets worse when I find it's in some kind of limp mode and won't go up hills at any speed! Now if you've driven over the Woodhead pass, you'll know how many hills there are (it's a pass at the end of the day!). Well try doing it in a van that doesn't want to go up hills Why does nobody say anything though? Nobody's going to get blamed for it, but it would be nice to know so that it can be fixed! Rant over! An engine to TDi for! "Land Rover- Proudly turning drivers into mechanics since 1948" |

I go over Woodhead a lot! Climbs are slightly worse coming from Langsett although the climb the other way from Tintwistle is no joke. I bet you were really popular with the traffic behind. |

There was quite a queue behind Coming back Westbound from Langsett it was very foggy too, and I must admit it took a while to overtake a lorry on the short two lane stretch An engine to TDi for!

Garages that promise and don't deliver...
Made an appointment 3 weeks ago for dyno-testing - checked specifically if they could do Defenders (as most can't). So I spent 2 1/2 hours this morning (6 am start) in a traffic jam to drop the 110 off. Another 2 hours on trains to work and back and THEN just before I'm picking it up they call and say "sorry, we couldn't test it as we haven't got the right adapter". When I picked the car up they even tried to get me to buy their undersealing But never mind - the 1 1/2 hour traffic jam on the way home gave me time to think about it some more. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Black Bin Bags that split as soon as you pick them up, what is the point of making a Bin Bag that is so fragile that it is almost useless.
Helped my daughter move flat today and I spent more time picking things up that had fallen out of spilt black bin bags than anything else. |

Here here! In the 90s the wife, 3 kids and I moved country using only black bags and a Sherpa Luton van. Neither of them broke the entire trip Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I've been driving 38 years and thought I'd seen everything - countless accidents, a lady spooked by a blue light which made her car pirouette on the M4, a cat sat on the crash barrier on the M4 near London, a bloke cycling with a bird on his shoulder, rain so hard that I literally couldn't see the road, snow drifts seven foot high, and countless acts of sheer stupidity. So, me and the wife are sat in Tesco car park today chatting about what time I'll pick her up (hate shopping). We are sat on the edge of the general parking before the spaces get bigger toward the outer edge of the car park. In comes an Asian lady with two boys. Youngest boy gets out. She chooses (despite ALL the empty spaces) a space between other cars butting up to another car. It quickly becomes apparent that she has absolutely no control over her car. Let me explain: she inches in, and I do mean inches by 5-second periods, while youngest boy tries to arm wave her in to the space - continually reassuring her that she has lots of space to fill before she gets anywhere near the car parked in front. Nevertheless, she continues to inch in. This goes on for some time before she gives it up and abandons the car. She gets out to look at the space in front, as does eldest boy. We meanwhile sit there open-mouthed in dumb-struck silence. How on earth did this woman get a licence, and what would she do if she came upon a road incident and had to reposition her car? But perhaps what is perplexing most of all (if you haven't already thought about it)... Why didn't she just simply choose one of the hundreds of spaces quite literally 10 yards away from where she parked? She could have driven straight into a square and had no one anywhere near her. Now left.

Holy-moly it's a bad year for dog fleas, the blighters seem to be increasingly resistant to even the usually effective treatments. Hope we get a nice cold winter! Steve.

The list seems endless. I think there's a new strain of super-flea around here Had dogs all my life, working ones for most of it but this is one of the worse summers I've known. Damned warm, bit of rain, warm again then rain, it's been ideal. That plus the deer and rabbits hereabouts. Steve.
