Stuck on Number Plates
I've got a new set of number plates to fit this weekend. Any ideas how to remove the old stuck on plates without damaging the paintwork? Brute force will bring the plate off from the front bumper but the rear plate is well stuck on.

They do come off, I did this recently. Use a hairdryer to warm up the rear plate and then using a wooden spatula slide behind the plate and carefully lift the plate away from the bodywork.

As above, instead of spatula you can use fishing line or floss (really) as a wire saw to cut through the the sticky pads.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hairdryer to warm them up, fishing line to remove them and WD40 to clean off the gunk left behind.

Pour / trickle petrol behind the plate leave 10 mins and pull off. Saves your fingers and no damage to paint - I them wipe over with meths prior to resticking the new plates on.

New plates fitted. Very Happy
The back plate came off with a good flossing! I had some tar remover in the garage that cleaned the old glue away.
The front plate I used a tyrap. I roughed up one edge and it cut through the pads in seconds with no marks.
