They do come off, I did this recently. Use a hairdryer to warm up the rear plate and then using a wooden spatula slide behind the plate and carefully lift the plate away from the bodywork.

As above, instead of spatula you can use fishing line or floss (really) as a wire saw to cut through the the sticky pads.

Hairdryer to warm them up, fishing line to remove them and WD40 to clean off the gunk left behind.

+1 for the hairdryer, dental floss & everything doused in petrol beforehand (melts the glue)

Dental floss, just be careful it doesn't cut into your hands.

Pour / trickle petrol behind the plate leave 10 mins and pull off. Saves your fingers and no damage to paint - I them wipe over with meths prior to resticking the new plates on.

You can also get label remover, such as this:

Yep, I use glue and tar remover, available from detailing/ car cleaning web shops.

New plates fitted.
The back plate came off with a good flossing! I had some tar remover in the garage that cleaned the old glue away. The front plate I used a tyrap. I roughed up one edge and it cut through the pads in seconds with no marks. Thanks for the advice  |
