Hadn't thought of that, it would be neater and more original looking - but would that narrow down the opening and make getting things in and out that little bit harder?

It would, but only above and below the tailgate bracket as the bracket already restricts 'clear' opening. However, thinking about it you could in fact cut out a door like you have done and secure the cut out on a hinge and spring load it so it always looks as one until it touches the bracket. If you get what I mean, but could be more hassle than it is worth

Landy Andy - that's only half a job - where's your imagination & a little garage engineering!
Is that a full length one? If so does the left hand front edge catch on the tailgate support every time you open it fully? |
