Yup, this is exactly what you've got.
When i built the project90-3 (in the "my defender" forum) my engine was ex disco, so I used the ECU just to get me going. Eventually I found a flashable type, and the transformation was unbelievable. I agree, the throttle is so jerky when using the disco ECU/tune on a defender. So, if you plan to re-map it at a later date, you will need either an NNN500020 or an NNN000120 or maybe an NNN000250, but I'm not 100% sure about that last one. With the others, just get a nanocom or similar ECu tuning tool, dump the relavent defender Td5 file to it (depending on what type of engine you've got), and enjoy the nice driving style!! |

Hey diesel_jim.......perfect guv.....it was actually your thread that made the penny drop, but I didn't want to post on it as it looked dormant now..
I did see elsewhere a list of ECU numbers for defenders and discos but didn't see my specific one mentioned.... I am am planning to pay a visit to IRB sometime this year so I can check out with the guys what my options are.. thanks again for your input guv... I'm guessing there is no real issue driving it like this as long as it doesn't actually overheat cheers, G |

I had a problem with my temperature gauge going backwards on my 05 TD5, turned out to be a bad earth to the ECU, run a new earth cable to the ECU and cleaned up the original connections and it was fine.
Hope yours is simpler than ECU swaps. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |

yeah I think I'll try the earth cable..just in case...plus its cheap n easy..
But guessing that if the MSB101181 is a Disco ECU then i'm probably stuffed anyway.. however, thanks for the input |

Tried running a new earth cable from one of the ECU mount bolts directly to the battery.....no joy I'm afraid..
was worth a try anyway.. |

That MSB part number is definately an discovery unit, so all the eaths in the world aren't going to make it run "correctly"
Excossack.... there's jerkyness and then there's jerkyness.... with the disco ECU it is really bad. |

I think early Td5's were quite jerky in that respect.

yeah I have now "gotten over this" and am now googling the difference between the NNN500020 or an NNN000120 ( my current thoughts are the NNN000120 ... and a shiny nanocom evo too ( love my gadgets) Shiny new bits, and a remap are a definite thanks again diesel_jim |
