Should be able to cruise at 70 and do 90 on a good day ! Try unplugging the MAF sensor this will make the ECU use a default setting which if the MAF is at fault will improve the running.

The MAF sensor (or mass air flow sensor) is in the trunking from your air filter box on the passenger side of the engine bay at the rear it is held to the air filter box with two over centre catches and has an electrical connection on it, this is what you need to unplug.

You can spot it in your photo, the pipe that runs to the front of the engine from the air filter box, the first gadget yo come to is what you're looking for. The electrics plug into it on the engine side, just squeeze the wire clip and pull off the plug, tuck it up out of the way and give the motor a test drive. If it has improved then there is the problem as the engine management unit has gone to a default setting and is not being confused by a faulty sender.

Its a very fragile thing and probably best to replace rather than clean. Having said that, I am sure there are some that have managed to clean theirs successfully. Alive Tuning and BAS I'm sure do uprated MAF sensors and it's worth just contacting other forum sponsors up at the top of the page to get a quality item and it will undoubtedly be cheaper than what you have flagged up.

Before you replace, just unplug it and do a test drive, otherwise you may just be replacing a good part.
When at top speed is the engine smooth or surging? Could be the turbo actuator. Andy |

just done a test drive with MAF plugged in and then unplugged just the same really when I reach 50mph actually it surging its not smooth. 2001 90 TD5 CSW Alveston Red Manual

Probably not the MAF then ! You could take a look at the red plug on the ECU in the locker under the drivers seat this suffers from oil ingress through the injector harness inside the cam cover (a cheap and easy fix). Easy to check and will be obvious if you have this problem as you will see the plug is wet with oil.
