Australia 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
So if I fit 285/75/16 on the boost rims with spacers, what are the down falls..... I want to set the car up to do a lot of boat towing on sand so I am keen to increase my tyre foot print, without effecting roadability to much....

I ran 285 BFG MT`s on Boosts with spacers for over 2 years and no problems Thumbs Up

Sonic did you find much change in the roadability of the car, heavy steering, bump steer, vague steering or anything of the like...

I had 40mm spacers from Rakeway Engineering Thumbs Up The steering was a little heavier but not bad and no bump steer.

Im running 285's on boosts with 30mm spacers and no issues at all 20000 miles done so far and not an issue other than dirtier than normal car lol Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon

Don't decrease your tyre pressures with 285's on 7" rims or the bead may pop Whistle 59 2.4 110 XS Utility

apologies, not been here for a few days.....no spacers, etc - its all completely standard, and like I said, apart from full, hard lock, I haven't had any issues at all.

It's to do with the wheel off-set, the further out from normal, the higher the strain on wheel bearings etc. Andy

So it's offset which is more significant than width which affects bearing wear then? At between a paltry £14:99 to £20:50 for a bearing kit dependant where you buy I don't think I'll be rushing out to rip my 10Js off my vehicle and refit the ice-cream van ones? I think I'll take my chance on having to change them sometime, the bearings that is!

Correct Thumbs Up There are other wear issues. I based my remarks on a life time of owning, driving and working with lr's. I once had a wheelbearing go and it oscillated on the stub axle and locked the front left wheel at about 35 mph. Still gave me the shock of my life though. But as K9 said it doesn't really matter if you have 10" it is just personal choice and that was all i was saying "It was my choise".
