A very unique vehicle, in view of which, will you eventually rebuild the V8 & re-install it?

Still not sure on what to do with the V8. I have considered to rebuild it over time and keep it with the vehicle. I wont get rid of the motor but it does need work. Denis It came over in a conatiner. Basic price is abour $2500 but there are other charges (inspection for bugs/mud $300 up to $3,000). Taxes. Broker fees etc. i had it shipped from Rotterdam to Montreal. I w as going to do roll on roll off to Halifax as this can be as cheap as $800 (for a mini...). They measure the RORO by length and height. Since it was over height it was almost the same price for a container to Montreal and it saved me 800k? In driving for me to receive in Montreal. With all of these costs it was still cheaper than buying one over here Sweep I have not looked very hard for photos yet but i will conatct LR eventually and see of any exist Cheers Tim Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |

Timo,.. Hello again from Oz, the land of V8s!!
Mate, there is NOTHING like a V8, especially the sound, when it's working hard. I know it costs dollars, but you could save up, trick it up a bit, heads, cam, pistons etc, with a nice set of pipes, it'd then still have the original engine, but it'd be even better.....and you'd have that V8 "Grunt",....so no, don't throw that engine away? Cheers, Pickles. |

JimBob and David,
Not really any defenders where I live. They must be 15 years old (US is 25year) so they are starting to pop up but a surprise to see one, the local ones seem to show up at my place for some reason.... More pics of the engine out or of just the truck? I never had the V8 in "high compression" people talk about how great they are but mine was never "great" when I owned it. A rebuild is in the far distant future. Cheers Tim Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |

As for the "more pics"
Old tranny needs some love - notice the wooden wheeled board broken in half. It didn't hold up well under the tranny, I will need to make my son a new scooter board..... The release bearing was really noisy, guess this is what it looks like when it needs replacing Old engine ready for storage Both of the trannys that I have don't have the plug that threads into the bottom of the bell housing. Can anyone shed any light on why they are not screwed in? You only insert the plug in the bell housing when you plan to drive across relatively high water levels. The hole is normally left open so you can see if there is an oil leakage in the bell housing.
Love the colour scheme... and another vote for Limestone coloured rims. Muffler out, gas tank drained, fuel pump removed, fuel filter removed. Cross member in place.....maybe
The disco R380 cross member does fit "perfectly". The back top and bottom holes line up along with the front top hole. Also had to grind the seatbox support down Hope to get the tranny in tomorrow Click image to enlarge Tim Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |
