Yes, which I think may be part of the problem, the heads stick up quite proud. Temporary fix, Araldite a thin "super" magnet to the inside of the lid, it sticks to the metal bottom plate. It is the problem, don't use the original bolts, use flatter self tappers or countersunk bolts with nuts

Thanks for that. I've looked at the lid and think that it' not just the bolt head; the whole lid is raised up too far by the hinge and the way it all doesn't quite fit into the original casting.
My "temporary" fix of a super magnet is now permanent and works very well. I really can't believe that LR didn't fit this as standard, presumably just to save a couple of quid. Whilst I had the Araldite out I also fixed the passenger door rubber strip where it meets the top of the door. Hey-ho, I never had such "fun" whilst owning Subarus & Fords. I fitted my glove box yesterday -but it took a lot of work to get it to fit the way I was happy with it.
Most pictures I've seen show the dash top sitting awkwardly and I wanted to get a fit that was more like it was before the mod. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Details here: http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05...ation.html http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

Its a great bit of kit but i wish it was supplied with black fixings and two new flush bolts to replace the originals and allow the lid to close flush with the dash
Other than the fixings the quality is great. |

Jim,
Even with flush bolts it doesn't shut flush due to the thickness of the hinge. Flush bolts help as does the thin super magnet I used. Series 2A 88, 1976 - 1980 Series 3 Lightweight, 1999 - 2011 200 TDi 90, 2012 - 2014 Puma 90, 2015 Wolf 90, 2017 - |

the britpart one fits much lower than that one in the pic , and looks the same design as the nak one
and if you fit it just right they sort of clip over the bottom edge |

Well i'm kind of stuck with the Mobile Storage one now. I'm hoping a change of fixings is all it needs.

Jim, no I just used some recessed head screws from my "they'll come in useful one day" drawer. They chewed their way into the plastic thing that secured the original self tappers. Unfortunately I'm a brute force & ignorance type of engineer, plenty of the former, not too much of the latter.
