Hi Jim, I've detailed the work in my blog. This is the link: http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05...ation.html It took quite a bit of modification to get the result: The fixings to attach the lid are the original torx bolts shortened with the plastic captive nuts being modified and re-used. The lower metal plate was removed from the hinge assembly to reduce the height by a mm or so. This was done by breaking the spot welds (x5). The hinge is attached to the dash with pop rivets. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

I would most definitely NOT be happy with that. I like things to be like OE, which that is not. So, if someone is intersted in this conversion, how can they be assured if they buy a "kit", that they are not going to end up with something that does not "fit"? Pickles. |

Don't buy the MSS/Mud one. I hear the Nakatenga version is better but have no experience of it myself.
mark_d's fix of the MSS version is fantastic. Shame it doesn't come packaged like this in the first place. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05...ation.html |

Mark, I've looked at your installation "process". WELL DONE, you've done a really beautiful job, to achieve the O.E. look that you have. You'd have to be happy with how it looks & operates now. That is how it should've come from the manufacturer. Surely someone will eventually make a "correct one".

They are all very similar, I have the Nakatanenga one and that too took a bit of fettling to get it right. The fixings for the lid were chromium too not black. May well have changed specification now as it was a long time ago I purchased mine. I know you shouldn't have to but if it doesn't fit 'make it fit.' I too if memory serves me correctly had to go for lower profile screws on the hinge to get the lid to sit right and it wasn't lined so things had a tendancy to rattle inside. I used an offcut of leather and lined it myself. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

The one I have from Naka went straight on with no fettling required. It has been on a couple of years now and gives the other (better) half somewhere to store her bits and bobs.
![]() Click image to enlarge It came with silver domed nuts on top and uses the original fixings to clip it in place so when its closed, its closed. ![]() Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

I fitted the Naka one but fitted clips back into the slots so that the pegs fit tight and it stops the lid bouncing open. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to ![]() Richard |

Ok so just to be clear, I'm about to buy one of these....,
So am I right to be getting the Nak one? Can I get one in that make with the lid in leather to match my cubby box? See below. And who offers the best deal? ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I have the leather trimmed glovebox, grab handle, dash top & extra thick cubby lid from FCX, the quality of the product is top notch, the attention to details is as good as I've seen on any of the top notch furniture we have supplied!!!
Would definitely recommend any of their range. Cheers J ![]() Click image to enlarge 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |

A great thread which helped me with my decision, and I was impressed with mark-d’s attention to detail with his fitting. I thought I would try the first four glove box kit, slightly more expensive than some but it looked like it would sit fairly flush. Quite easy to fit and with only a bit of fettling got it to close with a click and sit well. My wife didn’t notice anything different which was a good sign. I also lined it with the black anti slip matting, which also hid the marks left behind after removing the four plastic support flanges. All in all, very happy with it.

I got the MUD glove box and am half way through fitting it. Unfortunately I dropped a flange nut while trying to fit the hinge on the drivers side, luckily there is another flange nut in the kit. But I am worried about the nut inside the dash, how do I get it out without removing the whole dash?
Also has anyone fitted a 12v plug inside the glovebox, like in a Transit? Jeff ![]() |
