I think it's very much personal choice. I have the flat ones, which I think are fine, but others with convex ones will tell you that they're fine too. Darren

Thanks guys. Sorry to resurect an old topic but I'm new to Defender ownership (but loving it) and we are away with the caravan soon for the first time since getting it.
I'm going for convex. Do I need the additional extension arms? |

I have tried with the standard arms and have just changed to the longer arms. I found I couldn't see the sides of the caravan with standard arms.

I find the standard arms plenty wide enough, you can move the defender arms out to give that bit extra,

If I want to see the sides properly I need to fold the nearside arm out before attaching the milenco grand aero to the top of the mirror. I can leave the offside arm in the normal position. To fit the mirrors I have removed the little pads from the thumbscrews and just trap the ball shaped end on the mirror rim.
Caravan is a Sterling Elite 2014 so 7'7"wide Still useless when it's tipping it down on the motorway  |

What's the Defender 2.2 like for towing the caravan? I used an X3 before and that pulled it very easily. Far better than my partners Disco 1

I find it OK. Not going to break any speed records but nice and stable. A lot better with a BAS remap if I want to maintain 60 up the inclines, but it will use less fuel if I stick with the standard map, mainly because I then don't go so quick up the hills
Mind you I'm not one for trying to get there in a hurry. I don't believe in breaking the speed limits when towing. The caravan GVW is 1900, haven't had it weighed with all our gear on but it's probably between 1850-1900 depending on which awning we have. My last one was plated at 1900 but was surprised at the weigh bridge when it came in at 1800 exact with all our bikes and a porch awning on board. |

I don't think LR would be too keen to support warranty claims to engine and drivetrain if they know you've been running with a significant power boost.
