Bit of a thread resurrection, but it seems the best place to post...

In a bit of a rush before going on a trip, I bought the milenco aeros with flat glass. They do work with the standard arms out at 90 degrees, but I find the field of vision really poor, like looking through a keyhole.

So now I'm looking to get grand aeros, but most sellers seem to have flat glass only, are these any good?

I also found it a little confusing viewing through the standard mirrors (convex) and then moving my vision on to the flat glass of the current set up. Current Steeds:

I use the Milenco Aero too, but having had one of the flamps semi break I ensure that I tiewrap them onto the arm of the 90.

On the older 110 I drilled the arms and displose of the clamps altogether which are far more satisfactory.

Also place the clamps behind behind the mirror arm (to rear of vehicle) if you have a snorkel as rather annoyingly when you open the drivers door the mirrors will get knocked back 45 degrees!

I have the convex glass and they are otherwise excellent. Used them on the old D1 as well.

Scotland 2004 Defender 90 Td5 SW Yellow
Recently bought the long arm version (XXL) of the grand aero with convex glass. I thought these were excellent. I keep the O/S mirror arm in its 45° type position, but the N/S I had tipped out to 90°. I really felt much more comfortable and confident when towing with these as my field of vision was far increased compared to my cheap old mirrors. I'd recommend them, plus the service from 'justmilenco' was terrific.

With the rod fully pulled out, the offside door opens ok, with the bracket just pressing on the soft middle part of the Mantec RAI.

I have them both at the 45 degree position, saves adjusting the main mirrors when they are pushed out to 90 degrees.

Excellent Mirrors

As a result of this thread I bought the milenco longer arms about £15 compared to buying wolf longer mirror arms at £70 - & Wolf mirror arms made by brit part were abysmal quality compared to standard LR mirror arms.

Like the idea of drilling the arms for a permanent easy fix as tow once / twice a month & sometimes think towing mirrors could come loose - no I've not resorted to cable ties yet

ps doublea have you got an orange adventure now 2020 P300 HSE

Technically, this is Mrs Doublea's Adventure. The extra power of the 90 Adventure came in handy on our recent trip, eg pulling out of lay-by to get up to speed.

However, having enjoyed her 90, I'm looking out for a 110 Adventure for me, but it must be orange! Current Steeds:

I've got the Grand Aeros and find it very difficult to get a satisfactory view. I keep the n/s at 45 degrees otherwise the view in the existing mirror is obstructed by the door frame. The o/s I push out to 90 degrees. I always use a couple of reusable cable ties on each mirror arm as they always seem to come loose, I fix the mirrors by clamping underneath the mirror arms.
I'm going to get some jubilee clips to try a more solid fixing to the arm, or perhaps drill the arms for a more permanent fix, only trouble is you are not supposed to drive with the mirrors on when no 'van is attached so getting them off again will be a pain Big Cry 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black.

I fit exactly the same as doublea only I have trimmed the plastic that goes inside the mirror arm as the mirror arm is tapered so to get a good fit on the outside bracket.

If drilled not sure any more difficult as you just loosen & remove the arm with towing mirror on & leave the brackets on the defender mirror arm when not towing when away but ready for the return trip, only taking the brackets off when not towing for some time.

Off Topic doublea do not forget the 110 adventure does not have the 150bhp upgrade the 90 adventure did from the factory Big Cry 2020 P300 HSE

Well, I've drilled holes (8mm) in the mirror arms to take the Aeros clamping bolts. We're driving back to Blighty from Southern Spain this week coming so it will be interesting to see how they perform. Statically they seem very secure so all being well.....

I've had the same set of Milencos for 12 years and they fit all four cars I've owned in that time including the defender. I never bother with them unless in the UK where the police are quite particular (rightly so on such densely populated motorways). In France no-one is bothered. Ditto Ireland. One less job to do ( I know thats not the attitude !)

Well, back in the UK now, good trip back.
Using the Milencos with holes drilled in the mirror arms I found that the drivers side was fine as long as it was really tight.
The nearside, (offside in Europe) mirror was better than before but I still found that the Milenco still partially blocked the Defenders mirror. This was because the standard mirror arm isn't long enough so I'll have to get a longer one for the nearside. Anyone got a single, long arm spare Very Happy 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black.
