I'm struggling with the most basic stuff...
I didn't want to type this in fear of looking like a completely useless muppet....

How do you take the drain plug and fill plug out the diff?

I presume it's not a reverse thread?

And if they're a bit stiff any warnings on damaging anything (other than myself) ?

Just a normal thread. Be sure to do the filler first then you can get fluid back in. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Bpman.....

As you can see the diff was overfilled....

What issues are limited to arise?

I've just refilled to fill point which I believe is circa 1.8ish ltrs and therefore more than the 1.6 Ltr mentioned in handbook... should I be worried?

it's a level plug ,fill it till just starts to run out .same for transfer box and other axle , hubs
hubs will proberly have grease in then
only the gearbox has to have the right amount ( not to plug level )

I feel I may have to put my hand up to being a complete imberseal.

Have moaned and moaned about my engine i've now done a few hundred miles since new turbo And the Knocking / clatter noise is almost certainly the transmission.....hence I'm on the case of changing the fluids as a starting point but I worry it the clutch or gearbox extension AGAIN Crying or Very sad

so your saying that the garages you took it to many times could not tell you it was gearbox issue and not engine , maybe time to look for a proper garage and not fitters
