For someone tall the explorer is a good fit .
Triumph copied the Bmw as they needed a big all terrain tourer .
Both have plenty of power. I just love British bikes ( Asia assembled )
Cannot go wrong with either . Swapped mine for the tiger sport.
Also like the ktm very tall bike

Agreed ref the KTM, I was offered a test ride but simply could not touch the floor so gave up.

I think that sports bikes are going to be a thing of the past, the big 'adventure' style bikes are going to become very popular. Not ridden one but the Ducati Multistrada is supposed to be the ducks nuts.

I had GS1200 only problem with mine was corrosion on engine cover behind the front wheel, pretty common so something to look for if buying used and suggest look UKGSER forum very good Thumbs Up

Superb bike best all round bike I've had only sold due to lack of use 350miles between MOT's Embarassed

I'm 5.11 & on standard GS not quite flat foot both sides but adjustable suspension so you should be fine 2020 P300 HSE

So if people who are around 6' tall are finding the GS a good fit, who is the GSA catering for? Do you have to be a 6'5" giant to get onto one?

I have 08 GS really good for long distance, I have spent days with it against the stop doing big mileage across Europe.

Change the seat to a GSA one as much better, could maybe do with a larger tank but it does force stops which is not a bad thing safety wise Thumbs Up

I'm 5ft9" (in heals) and the GS is OK. The later models you can raise and lower the suspension with the flick of a switch. You can get a low seat. If that's not enough you can get low suspension as well.

I been to visit a local dealer and sat on both the GS and the GSA (Adventure). My feet were flat to the floor on the GS, but on the GSA I was almost on tip toes, which felt better. But I've just learnt the GS seat is adjustable in height so now I need to go back and try it with the seat higher.

Is the GSA higher because it has a different seat? Or is it a taller bike outright?

GSA = taller bike /greater suspension travel.
I owned a GSA1150 from new (way back when they came out) and it spent the most time in the shop than any other bike I've owned including Ducatis. BMW bikes have also come out poorly in a reliability survey recent. However this is a LR Defender forum so poor reliability isn't likely to be an issue Whistle
Best bet would be get yourself over to UKGSER.com and ADVRIDER.com for all the posts on the GS models your interested in. 2023 110 P400e

Both, GSA Seat is higher than a standard GS Seat. Both can be raised or lowered a little. Can't remember by how much, but about an inch seems about right from memory

Also the GSA has higher suspension. Again from memory there are people who have lowered the suspension on the GSA, and those who have fitted the GSA Suspension to the GS.

with what I read here, some specialist here about GS !
also a machine to dream about journey as with Defender !

I have buy a BMW R27 when I was 20, then a BMW R69S a little later and when I have sleep on it on the Highway, people around me have think, better to go with a car.
so, I have begin with some Jeeps and Land Rover after in 1980.
In 1988, after buying some 4 new one ten, I have will buy a other new but was not happy with the refund so I did buy a BMW GS80 !

after the winter, I did again buy a new one ten !

Of course, some times I look to GS again, but I try to not buy one !

Phil current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and
again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today.

both the Defender and the GS have similar appeal. Both are iconic go anywhere vehicles with a lot of legacy.
