^^ which is probably what I saw on the low loader. Absolute 130 competitor. Obviously I can't say if it was as long as a 130 but it was at least the size of the double cabs shown earlier in the thread. 2011 110 USW

Nice Looking Jeep, as Jeeps Go
But unless Jeep totally re-engineer their chassis and suspension from the ground up, they're never gonna come close to a 130 for payload. Jeeps (even the larger unlimited models) have a ridiculously low payload so can never really be a serious touring overland vehicle, let alone a commercial utility. This is common to most Yank trucks, they're for show rather than serious work. I was surprised to find a big Ford F 250 pickup has a lower payload than a Tojo Hilux and therefore much lower than a Land Rover ute. So Jeep a 130 jeep might recreate the appearance of Land Rover utility but unless redesigned would struggle to match it for functionality. I used to own an old Long wheel base Jeep, CJ8, called a 'scrambler'. Looked a bit like the Brute |

G'day NT Jeep don't have to do anything to the Wrangler. It's function is as a serious off roader not a load lugger. It will not try to fill the 130's shoes and doesn't have to. if the Gladiator extra cab concept makes it into production, I will want one. All it needs is a canopy, and the capacity to carry an ARB fridge, tent, sleeping gear, cooking gear, battery packs, solar panels, and assorted camping stuff. It's function is as the ultimate outdoors adventurer. And Jeep management seem to understand their place in the world much better than LR at the moment. Let's hope LR regain their sense of direction soon otherwise they will disappear up their own a***holes!!! |

130,000 dollars Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

The issue here of course is not jeep stepping into land rover territory but more if it goes the other way. The wrangler has managed to keep the same basic shape over the years but has evolved away from being a working vehicle into a fashion statement. If land rover do that to the defender then that is the end of small but capable utility vehicles. I am aware that I am an even smaller demographic within the defender market but there is a need yet for a compact utility that can tow and carry. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Call me crazy, but before I got my 110 CSW I did think about buying a Wrangler and tarting it up just as I have been doing with my Land Rover!!

Me too I was very close to getting a Wrangler. Then I saw sense and bought the car I'd always wanted, no regrets owning a defender, but have just sold it as commuting too far. I wonder if I'd had the Jeep whether I would still be in it, as its just a little more refined. I will be interested to see what a new Land Rover brings, but there will always be a place for our favourite icon.

looks like the Gladiator concept is dead. Not even part of the next 5 year plan!!!!
http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf...D2000BAEAA I really can't understand it, especially when..."Mr Manley is often quizzed about the prospect of Gladiator production, but so far has dismissed the chances of such a vehicle going into global showrooms". The man is obviously an idiot. |
