Slightly OT but I think related to the demise of the Defender. I spotted the other day an unusual Jeep on a low loader. The vehicle was in military green (I think it was also a military truck it was being transported on but not 100% sure) the Jeep was basically like a 130 with a Jeep cab on. Double cab set up with an HCPU style pick up on the back. Much bigger than an ordinary Jeep. Big knobbly mud tyres. Are Jeep going to be gunning for UK/European Military and utility contacts I wonder? 2011 110 USW

I like the idea, but wouldn't it have been picked up already, by some hack in the US? The only reason I can think that it would be in the UK would be to show it to the top military brass. But then that can't be true either, as top military brass (really do) fly all over the world by first class, so they would have jumped at the opportunity to go to the USA to see it. Jeep's (Chrysler's) inability to produce proper rivals to LR and others is astounding. Maybe someone at FIAT has seen the light, that LR might not go with a utility Defender, I don't know. They have had so many concept Jeeps that would have been massively marketable, that I sometimes wonder if someone there has been deliberately trying to run the brand down! http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/make/jeep The Grand Cherokee coming soon is great, but then for that price it should be. Now left.

No, it was more like this -
Click image to enlarge But the back body didn't have sills or mudguards, it was sat above the wheel like a truck if that makes sense, like a dropside type pickup. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

The one I saw definitely had a full size cab like the one in the photo I posted. It was about the same length as a 130, quite a big machine for a Jeep. 2011 110 USW

Humm
Doesn't looks too bad in my opinion. If they can replace the cargo bay by a 3rd seat row with a good diesel engine I will think about it as a replacement of an unexisting Defender. Maybe I'm going funny, but I think that double cab Jeep looks absolutely astounding. It's utterly incredible Land Rover is quite intentionally not going down that path.

It's probably true that Jeep have produced more concepts than any other manufacturer, certainly more than I can think of. Just type Jeep Concept into Google Images! This has always been my favourite (not to everyone's taste, admittedly)...

That Jeep Brute looks brilliant. I actually think these recent concepts are great, although not too sold on the one just above this post, too car like for me. Why can't Land Rover make a rugged looking off road truck like Jeep have, which is clearly all-new but also has strong and obvious links with its heritage. It isn't brain surgery for goodness sake. The one I saw which was to all intents and purposes a Jeep 130 also looked very cool. 2011 110 USW
