Possibly:
http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/kdc-bt53u-car-radio With: http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/kfc-ps1095-speakers And Sub wise: http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/ksc-sw11-speaker Or Sub wise again, more expensive but with more thump! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kicker-150W-Hide...20df084ea1 There are also Kicker tweeters (the small speakers on dash top) that are really good too but expensive. I personally have Kenwood HU & speakers, Kicker tweets, Kicker Amp and Sub. Works extremely well indeed. For reference; Speakers are 10cm as standard size, you can go larger for even better sound but involves dash cutting... Tweeters are 1" on the Defender. These sizes are on both speakers front and rear. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

Many thanks Steve and apologies for the delay in responding. Just to ensure Ive got this right - what I need in addition to the HU would be 4 speakers and 2 tweeters and the sub. I don't think there are tweeters at the back of the Defender? Where have you fixed your Sub? |

Guess I need to solicit the help and advise from Steve (and others in the know...).
My SVX has the standard factory SVX sound system, so the Clarion HU and subwoofer under the cubby box, with subwoofer control settings inside the cubby box. Pictures below. Now I have a problem with serious low rumble if I put the subwoofer settings in anything more pronounced than the setting in the picture below. So now the subwoofer setting is at a max bass production point where there is no rumble (at least not a disturbing one), which is left selector knob at 50Hz, Phase at Normal (so not like in the picture), and at the right hand side the Gain knob setting right in the middle, exactly as in the picture. If I put the setting on the left to 75Hz, 100 Hz or 120Hz, there even is a very distinct rumble when the sound of the HU is turned entirely to zero, the rumble being more pronounced at 100Hz and even harder at 120Hz.... If I put the Phase selector to Reverse instead of Normal, there seems also more of a rumble.... And if I turn the Gain to more than the middle point as in the picture, even at 50Hz, there is also an audible rumble. I cannot say if it was from new like that, but might well be, in any case it has been for a long time already, so much I know. Are they all like this? Or is something wrong with mine somewhere, and if so, what do I need to check, do, or eventually replace? I want to keep everything standard, so do not intend to upgrade the system from what I have, but would like to get it repaired, eventually replacing one or more items if they are still available. Tks for advise, Eric Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. Last week my double Din front came in (Thank you Brendan).
Today my Amplifier and (only) one external power supply module. Tomorrow I hope to get the other module and my new set of speakers.... (Focal 100 KRS) Click image to enlarge I haven't got a double din radio jet. Should I wait for the new Pioneer or Alpine 7" unitis (as showed on CES in Las Vegas) or buy a discounted 2013 model? |

Def - Yes, you've got it right two tweeters and four speakers. (No tweeters in the rear)
My Sub and Amp set up is a bit different being passive Jeanine the Sub and Amp are separate and not active which are all in one unit. Passive systems are always much much more powerful, right up to 15" subs an even larger in some cases some subs into the thousands of watts. Mines 450wrms 1000w peak. Here: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge (Since changed the RCA leads to 90 degree ones for a better fit than these in the photo above) Eric - The phase should be set to normal not reverse, in reverse it won't be in sync with the rest of the system. The HZ I would set low or just above the lowest figure the sub is designed to be cable of handling, low HZ is a stronger thump of bass. Typically most go down to the lowest of about 40hz mine runs at around 50ish. Bear in mind this is the lowest figure a well rounded system has a dynamic range. The speakers are meant to handle the mid frequencies, tweeters high and subs low. This is wear choosing frequency comes into the equation as well as just looking for power. You really want a well rounded system capable of taking high highs and low lows. Regarding the rumble... It sounds a bit like interference, how are you getting your signals? RCA or speaker level in? Are the primary power cables following the same route as the audio cables? TopQ - I'd wait and see mate and compare the two, see what features compare and if the new models are worth it compared to the possible saving. I personally would be looking at Pioneer though. Hope that helps some of you a bit. (Don't proclaim to be an expert but I try my best... ) No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª Last edited by custom90 on 4th Mar 2014 4:51pm. ^^ Steve, thanks comments. The Hz I have put at 50, there is no lower than that, so that seems right. As said, the interesting thing is that if I select 75Hz, 100Hz or 120Hz, the low rumble increases with each step up.
Now as to your specific questions about the rumble.... That sounds all a bit like one foreign language which I don't speak or understand . The only thing I can answer is that my sound system is the way it came out of the factory, the standard SVX system that is with 2 tweeters, 4 mid/low speakers and a subwoofer..... I have not changed anything in the cabling at all. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Perhaps it wasn't fitted too well.
The gain setting you have is about right by the way. Could you take a photo of the connections? That way I can tell at least if it's RCA in or speaker level in. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

Hi Steve, I've just learnt that DAB maybe round the corner in my part of the world. Can you pls recommend a HU that has DAB and analogue in the same league as the KDC 53. |

Eric,
I wouldn't worry too much about it, my Clarion sub (SVX spec, identical to yours) has periodically done exactly the same since virtually new. I'm not sure how many times I've actually noticed it, but I do remember that it only happens when the head unit volume is set to the minimum, and as I don't tend to drive around with the system on and the volume turned off, I've never bothered to pull the sub apart and debug it. I suspect it's to do with a tiny DC signal component which probably shouldn't be present at the unit input, caused by a poor internal grounding regime in the design. I've come across similar issues before on other systems. Pete |

Been tweaking my Amp today, brought the frequency down just a touch to 50hz. Adjusted the gain to match the HU better and it sounds much better now, a lot more power to it.
Of course I wondered why it seemed a little low on power lately and found the switch for the input sensitivity was set to Hi level in and it's set up to be used on low level on RCA signals. Must have got pressed somehow. I've also adjusted the volume tracking a lot better so it sounds a lot more in sync now between the Sub and HU output with the rest of the system. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |
