yea most likely spigot bush most td5s suffer at some stage.
Gearbox out to change it...but wouldn't bother unless you plan to change the clutch and Dmf. N |

why would spigot bearing only make a noise in reverse
I know spigot bearings do make noise but this wouldn't this be forward and reverse ? |

Mine does it in reverse too - and yes it's the spigot bush.
In my case it's because when I'm reversing, it's usually slowly and I'm slipping the clutch. As Nidge says, it's a gearbox-out job to change it. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Really? Can do them in about 5 hours by taking transfer box off then gearbox out. It'll get worse but won't harm the car, have a few customers who have had this noise for years! |

Not that I know of but next time I've got one to do at work I'll knock something up. Not a job I would even contemplate doing without a ramp and gearbox stand to be honest.

OK thanks - I'll make sure I do it when the clutch gives up or a similar 'opportunity' presents itself

@Dan... is it practical to reverse out in low box??
Better low speed control and so little/no need to slip the clutch and potentially create the groan... Just a thought Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |
