Not sure what the UK default percentage is but I have used a 65% antifreeze mix to water. This is good to -50c, there are some schools of thought on the waterless coolant, I've not tried it but it sounds better for the engine.

If you are still on warranty probably Best to stick to the land rover/ford/texaco standard coolant

Quantities are in the hand book

I doubt it is still in warranty if it's the 1988 car referenced in the signature. Standard ethylene glycol based stuff is what you want for that engine. A ratio of 50:50 is what I use in my 200Tdi. System capacity is 11.1 litres on a Defender. The method I use to get the mix right is as follows (as you can't easily or quickly get the system fully drained with the engine in the vehicle):

Drain system.
Flush with water both ways until all coolant dissapears and just pure water is coming out.
Re-fit pipes etc.
Fill with correct amount of antifreeze for the ratio (so I put about 5.5 litres in).
Top up with water.
Run up to temp and top up further if required.

The engine will mix it for you.

Yeah I probably won't get the rest of the coolant out as will be removing the rad + all the hoses so do you think I would get away with putting 4lts of antifreeze in and letting it mix with what ever is still in the system and top up as required if need be Smile Graham
