Car ramp - specification
Chaps,

I'm going to get a couple of car ramps to make working under the Defender a bit easier.

Most of the ones I can find are rated to 1000kg each (2k per pair). Given the vehicle doesn't weigh more than 4t, that shouldn't be a problem.

Have any of you had any experience of these / would recommend a particular set?

I found some on Difflock.com rated to 1t each for £70 (see here) and some on machine mart rated to 1.25t each for £35 (see here).

The machine mart ones are narrower (250mm cf 340mm) but the difflock ones aren't rated as high.

If you are feeling flush a set of'Raptor ramps' would be the ideal solution Smile. Otherwise I tend to just use 1 ton ramps and they work ok.

I bought mine from Halfords about six years ago(they still sell the same ones)because they are wide enough and take the weight really well. They are still in excellent condition and did not cost the earth. 130 crew cab

Thanks all.

The Raptor ones look the dog's danglies but at £190 I might pass (read: "spend the difference on more kit"Very Happy).

Machine Mart suggest that they have wider ones available. If so, I'll get them. 240mm is wide enough right now (whilst I have 235 tyres) but won't be once I move up to 265. I'd rather have a bit of room to play with than be balancing on the ramps whilst I work underneath.

I'll not worry too much about the weight, then. 1t per wheel should be plenty. Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
