Mine is currently in for that exact same issue!
They have had it 4 days now and are still trying to diagnose. As soon as i have confirmation of what it is then I will let you know. They have checked quite a lot and are currently rummaging around in my transmission. Is a much more pronounced sound in cold weather =================================== Steve 90 xs sw in Stonoway Grey - Sold 110 USW X-TECH |

On the back of this post I called up for an update and they need to keep it again overnight, and were quite frank that the transmission is in pieces and being rebuilt, possibly over the weekend. This is where the knocking is coming from but have not highlighted a particular part as yet.
Hope this helps and saves you the hassle that they are going through isolating the issue, but doesn't look like it's good news. Mine is a 2012 defender so luckily in warranty =================================== Steve 90 xs sw in Stonoway Grey - Sold 110 USW X-TECH |

@ 110John- The manual locates the thrust bearing on the cam rocker inside the engine and the PILOT BEARING INSIDE THE FLYWHEEL.Is this maby the bearing you are talking about?
