Pesonally I am fully aware and don't need reminding that I am going to need some form of catalytic convertor for the purpose of meeting MOT requirements and anyone else perhaps that may wish to jump on the bandwagon. Please do not ruin this thread with personal stances. I also apologise for adding yet another Cat thread to what is also currently running.
I am also aware that there are others that may be in the same boat as me........
I just wish to gauge opinion on certain products that may be available be they 'offroad' or not. At the end of the day it is and always will be down to personal choice. I have done a little digging and located this 200 CPSI one from Magnaflow part number 59956 which would require fabrication/welding with a 2.5" inlet/outlet that retails at £97.90 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-50-63mm-Centre...244wt_1197 I need to do more digging and hope others will add accordingly giving those that need one the opportunity to make their own choices. Thank you. If anyone has a redundant OEM Cat please drop me a 'pm.' Thank you. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! RockJaw mine is a 2.4 and I am totally unaware of the cat/dpf configuration of a 2.2. I shall say it.....
"If the 'Cat' fits....I'll wear it"...... " Ideally I am hoping to source a low profile one that I can either fit/weld to my existing decat pipe or swap out the decat pipe for a replacement with a cat without having the hassle I had to remove the original. I already have a stainless lifetime warranty system fitted. I have four months to get my 'act' (anagram of CAT) together...... Thank you for your positive, constructive and helpful contribution. dpf and cat in one unit (99% sure ) .. think there called dual cat
may be same bolt fitting (not sure at all ) but no good as 2.4 has no regen so dpf will block up on 2.4 you need a cat from a 2.4 not dpf or fit a universial cat down lower say in the silencer replacement pipe (if you got one fitted ) that way you could remove if wanted to clean out the to keep it flowing well if you know what I mean |

Mal, not sure I understand. Your truck is EU4, so why would it not meet emission norms? I am EU4 also and have no doubt that if we would have emission testing in Switzerland, (which has been abandoned a year ago for EU4 and higher cars), I would pass the test without adding anything at all. Because he's already removed the CAT, Eric, and now needs to put one back to pass the new visual check rules. Darren

^^ Aha, maybe he can just put the original one back on. Should be the cheapest solution, no?

He could, if he's kept it and it's compatible with the aftermarket exhaust system he now has, but I suspect that both are unlikely. Darren

Spot on! If I had retained the original Cat I wouldn't have started the thread. My original is now in Munich with the guts removed. I am currently 'exploring options' before making a final decision and fielding for other constructive suggestions and opinions.. Should have kept the DOG and not removed the CAT Mal.
On a serious note though, it was because of this grey area regarding if there may be any MOT changes in the future (at the time) which was why I didn't remove mine. There will no doubt be solutions from the aftermarket exhaust sector soon I.e. Alive and similar which will probably include sports cats now rather than complete removal. Have you contacted them? You may get a special order done? Another reason I'm concerned is getting the old off which would be a pain no doubt! Ingteresting to note that the Ebay ad that you've linked to, Mal, clearly states that the cat is not type approved and is not legal to fit for road use on a vehicle first used on or after 2/2001.
Does this mean that if the vehicle left that factory with a cat, then not only must a cat be fitted but it must be a type approved cat? Nightmare! I am quite glad that I never got around to removing the cats from either the Defender or the Disco, even though I came close at times! I wonder if there'll now be another upsurge in cat thefts, this time driven by the market for refitting. |

Well I removed mine and in the good old tradition of being a bloke, it ended up in the back of my garage along with the second row seats that were replaced by some Exmoor Trim ones I picked up at an auto jumble, pretty much every air filter I've changed.
Sometimes pure laziness does work and now on my third pre 2002 Td5 downpipe(two of them cracked the joint to the rest of the system) it looks like the original will have to go back on, at least it's had 2 years of "rest". I could allways hire it out as the MoT isn't due for another 11 months |

Blackwolf I have no desire wish to enter into this debate on this thread, there's enough of it on the other two threads. It is counterproductive and achieves nothing. I am aware I think of the forthcoming rules. I am just gauging as to what other people may or may not be considering and what products preferrably low profile may be out there be they type approved or not........decision to be made later which one to buy and fit.
My cat was removed a few years ago and admittedly didn't see this coming. Customsteve I do have other irons in the fire but will not post perhaps understandably because of 'trolls' and the associated backlash that may occur. There's enough of that already. Click image to enlarge Just to even up the odds, type approved transit 2.4 diesel also the right side of £100.....I would make it fit if need be. http://www.cats2u.co.uk/29666/Catalytic-Co...RANSIT/2.4 If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! If I'm correct, the test is a visual inspection that the cat is there?
Its a fabricated sheet metal lump covered with heat shields in a pretty inaccessible place somewhere below the turbo. So it should be possible, if one was that way inclined, to fabricate a nice stainless steel box around an aftermarket down pipe covered with some shiny new or old original shields that would pass a visual inspection. A type approval number wouldn't be difficult to get stamped and tigged on? I'm not suggesting for one minute that you should do the above as it is probably illegal, immoral & could possibly make you fat, but might be an idea for someone who has spent substantial beer tokens before the law was changed? Keith,
Your post is valid and 'IF' somebody was to go down your 'immoral' route (I'm already fat and to get my BMI down to an acceptable level I need to increase my height to 7 foot on the scales, probably immoral and illegal too to some) and with the original heatshields it would indeed probably/possibly/perhaps be a path some may choose to go down, and maybe some kind of temporary resolution until the rules change or become more stringent? I just don't know but wish just to information gather at the moment...... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
