Totally amped......well not anymore
Hi

Recently had the following system fitted to my 110. Pioneer DAB head unit (6600) , pioneer speakers (10cm up front and 6x9 in the rear hooked up to a jbl amp (GT5-A40). All sounded lovely and then the fuse blew. When I replace it I don't get any real volume from the rear speakers.

There's a little sound (ie) low volume but I don't know what do to get back to normal
. . Is there some sort of setup / config I have to do? Can't see anything in the head unit menu.

Btw I didn't install the system and am a bit of a novice. 94 Defender 110 Wagon

What exactly isn't sounding just right? The HU powered speakers or the Amped speakers?

Front speaker are fine. Very volume out of rear. Just found a section in user guide (not in the setup section) for configuring the rear output. Will try it out when I get home. 94 Defender 110 Wagon

So it's the Amp, I'm interested to know why the fuse has blown in the first place.
There obviously is an over load occurred for it to blow which is quite a major thing really.
What is the RMS wattage for the Amp and rear speaker?. Those figures should more or less match.
The load on the Amp can be an issue too which depends on how the speakers are wired up.
Hopefully the Amp hasn't been blown along with the fuse.

when first turned on the head unit has an admin function ( Initial settings) and I needed to set to rear/rear. This changes the output to the RCA inputs on the amp.

never admit defeat in front of the O/H.

Heres a few pics of the setup.

I would have like to have mounted the 6x9's in the upper rear but I couldnt find any speaker boxes. I had the existing ones so went with them. It still sounds decent enough 94 Defender 110 Wagon

Looks pretty good. Thumbs Up See if you can get the Amp mounting board carpeted though.
If you go on Ebay you can get small bits for a few pennies rather than rolls.

was also thinking of getting some clear perpex mounted on some spacers - wasnt sure if it would overheat. Still leaves the sides exposed but protects it a little? 94 Defender 110 Wagon

I wouldn't seal it in unless you've got ventilation fans which is a hell of a lot of work.
If you want some protection I'd buy some Alu strip from Wickes and make a custom made bent to shape guard.
Just two or three strips over and around it leaving a1/2" gap between the strips and Amp would go nicely.
If you really wanted it pretty once you've got the bends and shapes correct you could get it anodised, power coated or painted.

Do you see what I'm trying to suggest, then work lamp protector but instead of a cage like design just strips of alu.

But slightly different bug you get the idea, a bit like how my sub grille works.
