I spent today taking off the rusty silencer and then with some spare exhaust pipe I welded up a straight through pipe. Been driving it around this afternooon to test it.

I thought it was going to be really noisy, but it is hardly noticeable over what the silenced exhaust was. It is only if you floor it can you hear it get loud.

Really surprised how quiet a system with no silencers at all is. Really pleased with it as a major side effect of this mod is that my EGT seems to stop rising at 600 now whereas before if I was pushing it I would see the temp get up to 700+ which is simply down to the hot gasses being able to exit much quicker with no silencer in the way. This means I can get far more out of the engine now.

Very happy chappy with my mods today.

Have been driving about 50km today to check if the new fuel breather pipe works (i.e. lets air pass), and seems all ok now. No sign of any vacuum in the fuel tank when taking off the cap.
Also received the offer from my dealer for a couple of free tickets for the Geneva Car Show (6-16 March), and ordered them on their website, but asked if instead of the max 2 tickets in their offer, I could get 4..... Cool You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Been noticing the occasional drop of oil on the car port floor for a couple of days. Oil filter cup was leaking a bit.

Tightened it up a bit, but the drop of oil kept re-appearing.

Today I removed the oil filter. The bloody rubber o-ring was flattened out - this after only ± 5,000 km.

Lucky had a spare oil filter with o-ring sitting around. Hopefully this will sort it.

Last time I buy the cheaper replacement filters.

We will be near Geneva too! Smile

At just 16sf per person I think a bit of constructive persuasion of the girlfriend is in order. I'd love to be able to say I've been to such a historic event. ===================================

nice Thumbs Up

do love sawtooths, and the spacers do a nice job of filling the arches! (don't imagine you have to worry about mud being thrown up the sides over there!) Cheers, David
