Have you recently had any EGR issues or simply you suspect the MAF? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Egr is removed and as many of the problems people have on here seem to relate to the MAF I thought I'd try unplugging it to see if there was a difference. I should have put that my defender is a 2004 td5.

I think you can clean it with electrical contact cleaner.
It could indeed cause a varied range of issues as it monitors air volume into the intake and various other things electronically so if it is fouled up it could put it's readings out altering performance. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I took it out and cleaned it last week so I don't think that's the problem. I'll see if my multi meter works tomorrow to see if it gives me any ideas. If it shows up nothing I'll see if the mileage is back to normal with the MAF unplugged.

Sounds like maf troubles, any smoke/unresponsive throttle when cold?
If you change it only go for a Siemens vdo one as the cheap knock off ones last two minutes!!! |

Well, according to the bas website the MAF should rear about 2v from pin 2 at idle and mine reads ...... 0.04
So I guess I need to replace that then What I thought strange was the difference it's made rolling upto junctions, because with the MAF unplugged when I come to a junction now and press the clutch, the revs don't seem to drop like a stone and almost violently rock the engine (like the feeling of staling but with the engine still running) also without the drop off in revs when depressing the clutch, the gear changes seem smoother. I hope when I plug the new MAF in this will be further improved. Cheers Ray |

Are you suggesting T idle there should be approx 2v between pin 2 and earth?

According to the bas website it should. This is on a td5 so I'm not sure if it's the same on a puma. If you look under misc on the site they offer td5 MAF's click on the page and at the bottom it shows how to check the voltage. I've just ordered a new MAF from bas so fingers crossed there's a difference when it's fitted

That low volts on a TD5 output means only a couple of things.
Its dead as a dodo or the input feed to it is dead and not powering the maf its self, but if it were this it would generally give 0v out at all. Knowing the td5 like I do I think you will as you suspect and find the maf Is dead and does need to be replaced. We can assume the Input voltage on your car is actually ok as you do have some power out albeit very small at 0.04v Glad the simple test helped you out, thank you for the order. It will be sent out tomorrow for you. Regards Pete. |

MAF arrived safely this afternoon and got fitted before the light went I've got a bit of a run out tomorrow to pick up some seats so it'll get a good test with about a 250 mile round trip.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out as mine is really jerky when backing off the power at low speeds. Things tend to improve when it gets warm though.
