No drive on puma 2.2 110
was doing highway running around 120-130kmh average when some grinding sound occurs. came and go, came back so stopped by the shouder.. subsequently, totally no drive to car.

tried rolling back, roll forward, ease it into gear, play with clutch, H/L, nothing works.

bassically now, the main gear shift feels good, L/H shift feels a bit rough I think, maybe not. When L or H is engaged on the transfer case, there is light metal against metal brushing sound as i accelerate but no drive.

drained some oil from gearbox and transfer case no metail shillings..

what could be the problem? Before I pull down the TC and stuff...

Have you tried putting it into diff lock?

Are any of the shafts spinning underneath whilst in drive?

How does clutch pedal feel?

Andy

If locking the centre diff restores drive then suspect halfshaft or diff in either axle. If locking the centre diff makes no difference then suspect the adaptor shaft between main and transfer box, a common problem with Puma Defenders.

Use the search facility to look for "loss of drive" for several other threads on this problem.

locking centre diff does not work, from searching, it seems to be the shaft between the transfer case and the gearbox....

Not sure if your vehicle is under warranty or not, but if not, don't despair, this isn;t as big and difficult repair as it at first appears.

The parts cost approx £120 in the UK. Fitting involves removing the transfer box (not the main gearbox) and is actually easier and quicker than you might think.

This thread is over five years old so he's probably fixed it by now. Darren
