England 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Baltic Blue
ABS fault code
Hi all, the ABS TC and brake warning lights have just come on. The fault code thrown up is C1B02-16 “ return pump circuit “.
Anyone any idea where to start looking for a problem?

2011 2.4 puma.

Found this in a Range Rover manual (?) "Return pump circuit voltage
below threshold" -> "Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the ABS module for battery voltage at the fused supply circuit"

Wabco ABS only

1. Make shore fuse link is ok

2 make shore earth ok driver seat box your ABS ECU unit is in here too

3 make shore return pump relay works

4 arrow shows feed back circuit for abs unit i.e. has relay closed and or is power supply + for return pump ABS ok

How do you tell the difference?nthere is nothing on it except Land Rover!

Thanks for that, is there any chance of a higher res image? I can’t read it when zoomed to a readable size! Sorry, I’m an old git with poor peepers!

Thanks for all your help but my woes have become much worse!
Today whilst at a customers we had a sudden downpour, we stood undercover next to the Land Rover when suddenly the horn sounded as if I had tried to arm the alarm with a door open. It started and drove as normal but when I reached my yard I switched off, removed the keys and was just about to get out when there was a clicking noise from somewhere in the middle of the dash and all the dashboard lights started flashing! Then , my dashcam which is normally only on with the ignition switched on and off twice! Then, the indicators started flashing. This series of events went on for some time and I was worried about leaving my dog in it , fearing it may just burst into flames!
I think I have a serious problem that I may not be able to afford to fix, I cannot afford for anyone to replace a multitude of expensive parts only to find “ that wasn’t it”! I certainly won’t be taking it to a main dealer and I’m not sure my Indy will find the problems but I will get them to investigate. Keep your eyes peeled, someone may get a very cheap extremely cherished 110 Big Cry

I’d look at the aftermarket wiring that’s been done Whistle most of the oddball wiring faults I fix are aftermarket junk related Whistle

The clicking is probably a faulty relay. The black ford relays aren’t the most reliable in my opinion. The wiring in these is very simple compared to modern cars. Any auto electrician worth his salt should be able to fix it.


Help him though write down what happens, what else is related, what the weather is like, what sort of journey you’d done etc- will help diagnose Thumbs Up

Despair Not! Wink I'm with NickMc. An auto electrician should be able to fix it.
Why? In my experience, electric/electronic problems that seem "catastrophic" to the user often have a very simple cause. In your case everything seems to go mad, but that might be caused by e.g. just an intermittend short cut (water??) or, as said, a faulty relay. One tiny fault may then trigger other systems that don't like being triggered that way (such as the alarm).
When looking for faults, it is important to focus on / find the main cause in a systematic manner (or just by knowing which parts usually fail) without being guided by emotionally stressful symptoms, such as all the lights going bonkers Smile





Or to cut it short
