This still amazzzzzes me
Why do we bother with spelling? Unlike chess, in spelling the middle game is irrelevant. All that matters is the right choice at the beginning and the end. The middle letters, which must be the correct set of letters, can be completely jumbled and the reader will not be confused. To wit: "Arocdnicg to rsceearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer are in the rghit pcale. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit pobelrm. Tihs is buseace the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe." How can this little known God-given ability of the human brain be exercised to simplify, and perhaps improve, our lives? Any ttguhohs you cveelr TED fklos? cleaver thing the mind It's good to be back from the dark side DC110 -2012 Black with black hood and black x-tech FFRR 4.2 vogue Renault traffic auto PT crusier convertible Laika x700 Motorhome |

When I was courting my wife, I was a medical student and she was a trainee nurse - sort of middle class vs working.
Naturally I thought myself of far superior intelligence, so when one day she said "I shew you" I quickly corrected her. I felt like such a later on when she found a dictionary and pointed out my mistake She's never let me forget it and since then I just accept that she's always right Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Whilst it's been the acceptable norm to write 'show' for many years, 'shew' is the correct spelling.
'Show' probably came into use during WW2. |

On the subject of 'shewn', all 'buses of the Aldershot and District Traction Company bore an internal transfer which read 'All season tickets to be Shewn'. Not a common usage, even in the late 50s. And that inverted comma before the word 'buses' really is pedantic. And as for starting two sentences with the word 'and' ...... Well! One wife - livid

The inverted comma before 'buses was because they are omnibuses.
Most railway stations also used 'shewn' for their season ticket sigs. |
