I remember seeing somewhere that the police are not legally obliged to 'police' the 20mph and it is a guidence figure.
The police are obliged to cover 30MPH, so treat all 20mph as 30mph I guess. =================================== Steve 90 xs sw in Stonoway Grey - Sold 110 USW X-TECH |

Not quite sure on that but red speed signs are compulsory, but I have noticed green 20's in red 30 zones so the green are a guide as to advise but you are not obliged to drive at 20.
Over 20 with a red ring is speeding as far as on paper is concerned or a camera van. Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

There's the article. So changes to them are TBC. Largely self policed......by who? A strongly worded letter through the door haha. I abide by the 20mph's so can sleep at night as i'm usually not in such a hurry that 20-30mph will make much difference in adherence =================================== Steve 90 xs sw in Stonoway Grey - Sold 110 USW X-TECH |

The twenty limits where I live are so busy it's impossible to get up to 20mph.

I think the 20 limits are good in the right situations but not for long distances or on major routes. Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸

My son-in-law’s just this evening been rear-ended. Stopped with indicator flashing waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic, he was hit from behind by a car travelling at least 40mph. No accurate measurement of speed by the Police though, no skid marks, the car hadn’t even slowed and pushed my son-in-law’s car forward nearly 20 metres.
The driver? A woman (not particularly elderly) wearing an oxygen mask! And don’t get me started on deaf drivers (it’s not even necessary to report it to the DVLA unless you’re an HGV driver). You’ll fail an MOT if your horn isn’t “triggered from a switch or button within the vehicle and be clearly audible”, but what’s the point if there are people on the road who can’t hear emergency vehicles, let alone a wimpy Defender horn. Around these parts this year seems to have seen an increase in the number of drivers who seem to have forgotten that it is customary to dip headlamps when encountering oncoming traffic or perhaps where their headlamp dipswitch is located.
Not to mention people who stop at night on the right side of the road with their headlamps on facing toward oncoming traffic ![]() Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
