Refillin R380 gearbox oil
Currently to fill the R380 I run a bit of pipe under the sill, over the chassis and into the filler and then use gravity to do the job. Is there an easier way ? I was thinking of like a garden sprayer type pump, put the oil in and then pump up the jam (sprayer) and then fill with the pipe.
But, not sure the pipe would be the correct bore to do the job with any speed.
Any other thoughts? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I've got a garden sprayer for this very purpose. It's slow but controllable and mess free. I've put a short length of rigid pipe in the end of the flexible tube, which helps it stay in place in the filler hole. Darren

I've always used a gear oil pump bought from machine mart for about 15 kwid. Looks like a grease gun with a flexy tube on the end. It's quick, clean and cheap.

When changing my gearbox oil i feed a piece of plastic pipe from near the brake servo down to the filler hole and insert a funnel into the hose and simply pour the oil int the funnel and let gravity do the rest. 2005 Td5 90 XS

This /\/\/\ £1 fer a meter of 12mm (ish) clear pipe ,another £1 ferra funnel.You can just about see the filler hole from the engine bay. You can just about do the axles with pipe and funnel,it is a bit slow with the oil being so thick. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

You can use a hand fuel pump for boats, it costs around 10 pounds here in COlombia, you can find it in any boat store. Mine can fill the gearbox with ATF in about 4 minutes. The transfer goes for about 10 minutes....

I have a problem here with MTF, it's extremely expensive, about 6 times the cost of ATF (Land Rover one is about 10 times more expensive). My gearbox only used it during 20.000 km (bests of his life, I think, it was really smooth those km). Right now the gearbox have 230.000 km and have some issues, it's going to be done a full maintenance on april 2014, so from then I'll start using Honda's MTF (have a new job right now so can afford the extra cost). With MTF I would think this manual fuel pump must be even faster...

I am a bit of a fan of the oil safe products http://www.oilsafesystem.com/oss-oil-safe/...s-and-Lids think difflock.com sell them here in the UK. They are not the cheapest, but they work flawlessly. I use the hand pumping version with the hook type end for the R380 filler hole, works a treat.

I have the oilsafe pump too, wasn't cheap but must have had it 10 year s now so its paid for itself. very happy with it.
