Possible new defender owner
Hi all.
Thinking of buying a new defender before the current model dies.
Currently own a RR Sport which is now 2 1/2 years old and am worried about ownership once the warranty runs out.
Cant make up my mind whether to go for a 90 or 110?
Have driven a Puma 90 CSW and liked it (not a sport I know, but have always had a soft spot for defenders).
What do you guys recon? Very Happy Its easy to smile and be happy when the world rolls along like a song.
But a mans got style if he can smile when his Land rovers going wrong.

I have just given up a Disco2 for a Puma D90 but I don't know that I would have given up a RR Sport. I guess if I could have afforded a RR Sport I would have just bought a D90 as well.

For my money I would only ever have a 110 if I was to only have one Defender. A brilliant drive, can take loads of people AND loads of stuff. It's like a tardis inside.

Good to see somebody else from my neck of the woods looking at defenders !

Personally, I would go for a 110 - not that I am biased owning a 110 Double Cab Laughing
I had a 90 loan vehicle for a month and I found the ride to be harsh compared to the 110.

There are down sides to both vehicles, the turning circle on a 110 is like a super tanker on a bad day for example. In the end it depends on what your main use is going to be. Mine is used 80% on road and 20% off road plus all the hauling of rubbish etc. and I find the 110 is well up to the job.

As an aside, Yeovil LR are good to deal with, they have some Defender owners working there. I tried Tuanton LR when I was looking for my vehicle and my thoughts on them are not printable !

We have a 90 xs CSW and a 110 xs CSW the ride quality in the 110 is a dream compared to the 90. Test drive both and you will see Thumbs Up 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Because a 110 is heavier?

Also, fuel consumption should be slightly higher on a 110 (possibly for the same reason)...

Not yet I ain't! He needs to do the right thing and purchase! Irony is I'm off down that neck o' the woods this afternoon to collect Ferdelance!

Tony2 I too have a 90 and it's bl00dy brilliant. If you want car comfort stick with what you have. If like me you want to feel excitement mounting at the prospect of a journey, wish to lavish money at increasing your vehicle's functionality and looks and enjoy the experience lumps, bumps, warts 'n' all do the right thing! Buy in!

I did not 'need' a Defender, any capable road going vehicle would have sufficed. I bought one because I could, and I really really really wanted one!!!! Do you???

Partially, also the longer wheel base means you aren't a susceptible to the choppy ride over bumps.

Tony2 - welcome Thumbs Up. Obviously it kind of depends what you want it for. Both the 90 and 110 will make you smile when you get in them. Both will suffer the same frustrating niggles and build quality issues (although the solution on a Defender is a damn site cheaper than a RRS). I've had both and I love both.

If you want to go anywhere with more than 2 people (plus their luggage) then a 110 will be much better.
If you want to do extreme off road then clearly a 90 will be unbeatable.
If you want a more comfortable ride (relatively speaking Wink ) then a 110 will deliver.
If you want to park in a tight space then a 90 is the one.
If you want to look the dogs danglies then either is perfect Thumbs Up

You'll also have to decide whether you're going for a CSW or hard top or pick up or double cab or... One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Go for it - I went from range rovers (the old fashioned type, mind!) to 110s and haven't looked back - I enjoy every drive, and with the Puma you can finally travel long distances in relative comfort 1953 80
