3 options:
Mount to the rear crossmember. Good enough in a straight line pull (NATO jaw mounts to the 4 central holes) but questionable from an angle. Mount to the chassis. Such as a Jate ring. I know what you mean about the lack of reinforcing but I've never seen or heard of anyone tear their chassis rails with a recovery. If you mount two then you have the option to spread the load further. Mount to both. Such as aDixon-Bate adjustable or Southdown. Essentially this will give you the strongest possible anchor but by tying to the chassis rails you inevitably compromise departure angle. The D-B setup is even more extreme than the OEM one but you get more height. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

I looked at the LRDE video and it looks to me they have a angle iron below the chassis but I cannot see any additional support to the front like when you have a standard tow bar.
That is off course an option make a very short towbar and reuse the additional supports to the chassis. It help to give some more protection to the tank too. Thanks for replies alantd and roel. But, gee wiz, I expected more replies. What do others on the forum with Puma D90s do about rear recovery?

Be carefull when fitting rear Jate rings, they come very close to the plastic fuel tank. The lashing eyes are also awkward to remove as they have to be sawn off. They are bolted on before the tank is fitted, presumably because of the clearance with the fuel tank (the head of a bolt is thinner than a nut and a few threads of protruding bolt). The Jate rings will need to be threaded one side. Jate rings that use a bolt with a nut won't work! Hope this is usefull.

That's interesting - I never bothered to look on my old 90. The 110 is perfectly accessible. My OEM and D-B adjustable tow hook (with the chassis ties) mount to the same holes so how does that work on a 90? I can't imagine that fitting the OEM tow hook is a tank-out job One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

I took the approach of buying a Safari Equipment 2" receiver that bolts onto the rear cross-member, and then sits just underneath it, keeping out of the way, but allowing you to attach a recovery point when needed (or towball when needed). Peter

LRE hontion we ran std two hitches on 90 and 110s
i run a southdown rear tow pack on my 110, better protection for the tank, no loss of departure angle plus option for a tow hitch or a recovery eye. i moved the electrics up into the rear 'PTO' hole in the chassis Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

How does it line up? Do you have a plate that comes out of the 2" hole and points up to keep the NATO in line with the holes in the crossmember? Will that be strong enough (there are folks who have bent their crossmember towing a Sankey). If your NATO is in line with the 2" bracket (the strongest position) won't it be too low? I have to admit, though - not having a plough on the back is quite appealing. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |
