That sounds about right. I bought the receiver, the single eye (for recovery), a drop plate (for 50mm ball) and a straight through plate (for my NATO hitch). Total was somewhere in the region of 250 in VAT and delivery IIRC. Front one looks good - would that work with a winch bumper? The answer is eventually ! We were given a challenge to get through that area anyway we wanted. The track/ruts had been made by a tree feller and you could walk in them without any problem. Some of the ruts had about a foot of water on the surface. I was going to take the shortest route to the end - via the ruts . SWHMBO decided she was not going to help if we got stuck so we decided to weave through the trees to the end point. Once we had finished we saw the Freelander had beached and went back to help. He had smashed his front skid plate off and was well bedded in. The D4 came to pull him out backwards but the FL was so well bogged down it did not work. It was then decided that he needed to be pulled out from the front. Problem 2 hit then as the D4 driver tried to come out of the ruts by going across them. 20 minutes later we had him out ! The track to the front of the Freelander looked fine and I walked part of it as well. The D4 came down the track and suddenly vanished up to its axles ! The ruts had a hard crust over mud that would easily support a person but not a vehicle ! I could not pull him out as where the ruts were firm it was very slippery clay. It then took another 40 minutes to rescue the D4 and eventually another 10 or 15 minutes to get the Freelander out. A winch would have probably got them out OK but the Defender with one fitted was not with us as the conditions were OK the previous week - the tree felling machine had changed things dramatically ! Those ruts were about average for the day, there were worse and there was a fair amount of digging and filling in to get the two freelanders through. A great day none the less Bob |

Been looking for options for a decent recovery point for the 110
Have a standard 110 towbar with a Pendle bile rack attachment and a Bradley ball and auto jaw http://www.towingandtrailers.co.uk/cgi-bin...wprod_TB05 Is it safe to use the autoloack as a recovery point. On my old 90 I had a point that was attached to the man rear number but this does nt fit in the holes now as its covered by the towbar plate Click image to enlarge Not the best pic but you can see what I mean - This also had the removable tow bar and 2"receiver - sadly sold with the vehicle - What is a sensible alternative Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Defender 110 County SW Disco 3 HSE Freelander 2 HSE - SOLD going back to a car www.lothian4x4response.org |
