How does it line up? Do you have a plate that comes out of the 2" hole and points up to keep the NATO in line with the holes in the crossmember? Will that be strong enough (there are folks who have bent their crossmember towing a Sankey). If your NATO is in line with the 2" bracket (the strongest position) won't it be too low?

I have to admit, though - not having a plough on the back is quite appealing.

Al, Safari sell a 2" nato reciever that plugs in the hole where you can see Andrews shackle, you then bolt the Nata jaw to the reciever Thumbs Up .
The sankey i have has had the hitch extended by 600mm and dropped 100mm...lines up perfectly with the safari reciever (it was sonics and hes pretty good at all things engineering!!) You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Just bought the Safari-Equip 2" receiver, drop plate + additional NATO plate and a shackle Mr. Green

Looks like the best solution (which, to be fair, Sonic told me ages ago).

Can now interchange my NATO jaw and 50mm ball and maintain some departure angle!

Woo hoo. Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
+ New Defender 110 First Edition

Did you buy this direct from Safari Equip ? I am looking to purchase one and the only place I have found it mentioned so far is on their site.

Yup. Mind you, it hasn't turned up yet so I need to chase them (hasn't been on my priority list yet: comes shortly after 'get back to the UK' Whistle ).

Nice blokes. Thumbs Up

NOTE: be aware - it isn't type approved. They don't sell it as a 'hitch' but as a 2" receiver. I don't think that is an issue and I'm sure Sonic and AndrewS can vouch for its strength. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I bought mine from Devon, but like Alan, it was a few weeks before they could get it to me. (I take it Safari Equipe don't keep a large stock of them). Peter

Thanks Alan.

I don't want if for towing but for mounting a recovery point.

When I manage to get the pictures up loaded from the weekend you will more than likely see why I am considering one - recovery of a 1 month old D4 and a Freelander 2 Laughing

I have emailed safari but will give them a call this afternoon - maybe they are stuck overseas as well !

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of price is the receiver - I can't get a reply from Safari on the phone.

We will be stocking quite a bit of Safari Equip gear including both front and rear receivers. They will be added to our website in due course. (Websites are like Land Rovers an evolving project! Razz ) The receivers are a heavy lump so if you want to save yourself some carriage costs you could always collect it from our stand at the LR shows. We actually live close to the factory which is an advantage!

Having the front receiver means it is a doodle to fit a tow ball at the front if need be.

The Front receiver is well braced and has recovery eyes inbuilt. Don't confuse this with el cheapo ebay specials which can break!

Must admit wish it was fitted on black ice wednesday

Well one of the owners is stuck abroad at the moment but rest of the staff are working normally.

Cost of the rear tow bar 2" Receiver is £120 + VAT + Carriage

If you are going to a show we could always ensure we have one with us so saving you carriage
