LR008247 Crash Plate....& "Recovery points"?
I was in the Dealer's workshop with Wifey yesterday checking out our Defender which we hope to have next week.
One of the items being fitted is crash plate LR008247, and I thought I heard the fitter mention that the existing "recovery points" couldn't be left on. I've looked at the fitting instructions, which shows that they can?
Also, I've seen Jate Ring ZXC9435, that can also be fitted, but I would reckon the standard "recovery point" would be fine for me.....I mean all I'd want is somewhere to attach a tow rope if needed.
Also, I was told that the standard "protection" bar (a round tubular (pipe shaped) item) is removed, & not replaced, when LR008247 is fitted
Does anyone have any info?
Cheers, Pickles.

My SVX came directly from Solihull with that very same undershield installed. The original tow points are also in place. I think it is quite logical that the tubular shaped protection which seems standard equipment in Australia will have to be removed though to make place for the undershield.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I've had both the tube and the plate and they are mutually exclusive. They use several of the same mounting holes, and occupy some of the same space.

I'm with mikeh501 on that one! The Jate Rings are better but they were designed as lashing points for the British Military who needed a bigger eye for their kit.

Thank you for all for your replies.
So, bearing in mind that there've been various comments on here regarding the lack of strength of the standard bumper, if our 90 had to be towed, where would the tow rope be attached?
Cheers, Pickles.

I bought that steering guard and found that the cutouts for the Jate rings were not as shown in the fitting instructions. I had to get the plate milled to fit.

So as standard you can use these for towing. Absolutely no issues towing on the road with these, especially if you make a bridle and use 2. These are NOT for off road recovery as the force is much higher.

You can remove the lashing eyes and replace with what are called JATE rings. These can be used for recovery but its still not ideal because of their location. If your stuck, then most likely these will be covered in mud!

Other cheap option is to fit a set of these over your existing bumper

Best option is to fit a winch bumper (ARB or similar) which have built in swivel recovery points all nicely positioned and rated.

I am aware of the "configuration" of a bridle, but is there a commecial item, or do you have to make it up yourself?
Cheers, Pickles.

You just buy it separately. A 2m strop or rope with centre wear braid and a couple of bow shackles which fit your recovery points.
